Friends Polaris Predator 500 pops

My friends Polaris Predator 500 pops through the powerband. I looked his carb over (internally) cleaned his air filter, and checked the plug (what a treat). Everything looks good. I am leaning towards electrical.

If someone has knowledge on these machines would you let me know if the is a wire that is prone to problems, coil, etc. ?

Thank you

i know what u mean with checking the plug, its hiding in there, lol. seems polaris didnt know how to make thier first quad

if its all stock, either ur carb broke(never ever heard of this but anything is possible). if its not stock, change it back to it. also, could it be the rev limiter kicking in?think the stock is 8000 for this machine but rarely will anyone get it this high.

or maybe ur cdi is short circuiting? does he ride in water a lot?

ive never heard of any problems with the predetors other than their heavy weight issues.

Jetting is the problem. How does the plug look, black and dry, tan, or black and oily??

His plug looked looked light tan. I should have written the jet sizes down while I was in there but it had a 180 main. I do remember that. He has a K&N filter on it with a bag and a pipe. I don't remember what pipe. The stock air box has been removed. What is the factory jetting for this engine?

Thanks
