SnoPackers Grass Drags Planned Jefferson ME
We have met with the owner of Broken Acre Family Retreat on the Valley Road in Jefferson and he has enthusiastically offered to host the Grass Drags at his facility. We are currently contacting other area clubs that hold Grass Drags in the fall to coordinate dates with them so we can collectively provide racing opportunities without conflicting schedules.
This first year we are planning to hold the event much as we did on the ice, with stock, modified and improved classes and trophies for the first three places in each of the engine size classes. We plan a double elimination race as we did on the ice.
Please visit our facebook page SnoPackers Snowmobile Club | Facebook for additional info and for updates
Please let us know what you think about our idea for the future of snowmobile drags hosted by us as well on our facebook page.

Construction on the drag race surface has started. We are not just setting up lines in a field, we are leveling it out and extending the run out as well!
To see more pictures and to see up dates on our drag strip like us on facebook!

Hello all sorry for the delay in providing an update. We met this week on the status of moving forward this fall with the grass drags. We were concerned that the grass would not thicken up and firm up the ground in time for the races but from the look of the track area it will be ready.
The date for the race has been set for Oct 13 and rain date of 14th. If both days are a washout we will look into the future and pick a new date trying to avoid other location’s race dates. We picked this date to be in the middle of the NH races and the BogBrigade club’s races which are on Oct 6-7 and Oct 20-21 respectfully.
1. Fees
a. Entrance Fee for both Spectators and Racers (12 and under free) - $5
1. There will be a limit on access to the pits, only racers and crew.
b. Race fee - $20 per class
2. Track format – 400 ft with ample cool down area.
3. Race Classes - Format (18 and older only) We will publish the requirements of the classes later. I see there is interest in a vintage class. I’ll bring this to the club and see if we want to include it and simplify the Race Ready and Improved into one or something.
a. Stock
b. Race Ready
c. Improved
3. Validation of sleds – We have a sled tech person coming to the race and he will tech the winning sleds to verify they meet the class requirements.
4. Drag start verification and race timing – We are bringing in a professional race portatree timing system, no flag and stop watches anymore!
5. Safety - Require a kill switch tether MANDATORY!
6. Food and beverages will be available at the site
7. Location of races – Broken Acres Farm – 160 Valley Rd, Jefferson
Several people indicated that 400 ft was too short, the cost to increase the track length to 500 ft is too much after the construction we took on this year. Maybe in the future we can consider lengthening the track.
Ill post updates as I get more information thanks all!
~ Phil

Update on the races, they are on and we are preparing the track this weekend. Some folks on another forum were asking about hotels, there are hotels available in Augusta which is about 16-18 miles away from the race site.

Look forward to seeing everyone there!
