I'm a Northern Mainer, brought up and lived most my life there but now I live just over the border in Canada across from Fort Kent.
They had the International Snowmobile Festival this past weekend in Madawaska which I guess netted over 500 registrants which included a 3 days riding pass for western New Brunswick and Maine trails. Lots of sleds out this past weekend.
Myself I put 328 miles on my 600SDI Expedition TUV and I would have to say by far that Fort Kent has the roughest trails out of the 328 miles I did. So bad so that my wife stated she did not want to ride back there anymore. We rode a loop on Sunday after the snow storm going from Baker Lake, New Brunswick, to Edmundston, New Brunswick where we crossed the border into Madawaska. The trails were all pretty fast and nice until "literally" we hit the welcome to Fort Kent trail sign and then it was about 15 - 20 mph for the last 5 - 10 miles. The trails were so rough my shoulders and arms were killing me.
When we got to town center to fuel up I remarked to another snowmobiler what I thought of the trails in FK and he said no big surprise it is common. I was truely disappointed. I heard through gossip that FK started really early with grooming this year and the budget is short for grooming fuel so their not out often.
I think I will head South for a nice long trip one of these weekends. I keep hearing how beautiful the Jackman trails are, (I lived there for 3 years when I was young) but I never rode them.
Well that was my first post rant
