I have enough for the yard and perhaps well mowed fields but the pines are keeping it off most of the local trails. about 5 to 6 inches wet

Okay - so I see some NH folks here... What kind of snowfall do you get, and where?

I'm asking because I'm between jobs at the moment, and seriously considering getting the heck out of NY state while I have the opportunity. I've been doing a little research and NH seems to be a pretty nice place to live (low taxes, sensible gun laws, high-tech jobs, low unemployment, etc.). Of course, after posting on here for a couple years, maybe nobody would want me there to mess up their state...

Maybe if you're really lucky, SEG will give you a job.

I love NH. I've lived in a few states, and always came back. The high tech job thing isn't very good, unless you're in the southern half of the state or drive to Mass for work (a lot of people do it). If you live in the southern half, good snow is an hour or so away. Come on over! (no, I can't hire you...)

And I wanted to work for SEG! Thanks for nothing!!!

Seriously, thanks for the feedback. I take it the south gets little snow? From what I read - the climate sounds a lot like Rochester, NY. "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute." We have 80's one day, and 30's the next. Sometimes 70's and 30's in the SAME day!

The "high tech" jobs I saw were mostly near Nashua. I'm thinking of getting back into some sort of military support job. The USAF taught me electronics, and I worked with Electronic Warfare the 4 years I was in. There are a few Mil. contractors near Nashua that do that sort of work.

I suppose a lot depends on the cost of living there. Gotta make in the 60's here just to own a house and raise a family. Stinkin' property taxes (town plus school) run me around $6k for a very modest house that I built myself. Am I to understand NH property taxes are considerably lower? I couldn't find any reference to "school taxes" at all. Do they combine them into the "property tax" figures? I saw $16/k "property tax" in Nashua... I pay over $36/k for town and school taxes where I live. It really sucks! I'm tired of forking over a huge chunk of my paycheck to our failing school systems.

On good winters the southern half gets plenty of snow, just the last couple of years have sucked.

Nashua is the place to go for that type of work, or right over the border in Mass (20 mins away). Property taxes vary by town, some are a LOT higher than others. I think I pay $12 per $1000 value where i live, 2 towns over it's $20!

1. On the snow front...most of the time the south gets plenty of it's fair share of snow...but yea the last few years haven't been the best but here in Concord we've had winters with almost 100 inches of the stuff.

2. Taxes: There is good and there is bad...Property taxes can be EXTREMELY high depending on where in the state you live. But you've got to remember there's no sales OR income tax in NH. So that helps offset the higher property taxes.

3. It's a great place to live and your only a short commute to where you need to work. If in Nashua your only a 30 min ride into Boston. and by the way Nashua, NH was voted the best place to live in the US in 1987 and 1997.

Thanks for the input guys! Death and taxes... I can't seem to be able to get away!

Housing in Nashua seemed pretty expensive, compared to where I live. Here, a 4 BR 2 bath, 2300 sf, w/ 2 car garage on an acre or so runs around $160k. The comparable houses I saw online in Nashua were running in the $300k range. I guess that would offset the property tax difference a bit. I'm still trying to weigh my options...

I guess I'm spoiled with the snow here. We average 100 inches a year, even though the last couple years have been duds. Compare that to Tug Hill though... their average is over 300 inches per year!!

If you live right in Nashua property is more expensive...it is the 2nd largest city in the state...you can live in more rural outlying areas for cheaper
