You bet there are, and even if we meet up somewhere and go, there can be a lot of good riding just about anywhere.

How does late Jan. early Feb. look?

Like I said... I'm on extended "vacation". Late Jan. or early Feb. sounds like a plan. Any other takers?

I'm in! Jan 12-16 I'm in W.N.Y for dog shows (Huskies) and riding if there's snow. Feb 10-17 I'm on an anniversary cruise with the wife. So, the proposed dates RJ stated sound good for me! South of Syracuse is a 4hr easy haul for me from Jersey. This is an awsome idea. husky

Ah.... that explains the name "huskysled". I had a manager that was big into dog sledding. He runs the dogs on the Erie Canal foot-path quite often during the winter months. I think his wife also takes them to shows/exhibitions. Last name is Triplett, from Penfield, NY.

The wife has family in Penfield, nice area, growing too fast tho

We are exactly halfway between Syracuse and Albany, about 5 minutes from the Thruway exit (Herkimer, exit 30). Good riding South right from our house (as long as we don't repeat last winter) or just another 20 minutes North if we don't have the snow. Either way, we rode every weekend from New Year's thru the end of February, plus some.... Can easily accomodate a couple of trucks/trailers if anyone should want to try our area.

Avon, yep. Had a brother-in-law who lived in Lakeville. You're 45 minutes from me.

Ever head towards Warsaw??? There is some PRIME riding there. I went in Feb. '05. I took all three sleds, including the '80 Jag!! Had a blast, and the trails were fine - even for the Jag. IMO, the trails there were as good as any I have been on. Well marked, flat, and with gorgeous scenery. We passed maybe 10 sleds over the 2 days of riding we did there. As for the Hill, I tried the Jag up there one time. The trails are WAY too rough for it, and it wouldn't handle the huge water holes. No Good!

Here's a look-see at the Warsaw ride...

The pic with the farm in the background has my friend Bill ripping around me on the old Jag (as I stopped to take the picture).

Ya thats some pretty sweet riding we get when we have snow LOCALLY. I can understand that sled didnt do well on Tug Hill. You know everyone always complains about the Hill and how rough it is and say the middle of the week is the best. Idunno maybe its just me, if you go fast enough u don't feel a thing. If theres snow im riding!! Lets get together this winter and ride Warsaw and locally if ya want. THINK SNOW

Last year was so rough, we lost a mounting bolt off the rear suspension of my Panther. It somehow vibrated out of there... Luckily my son was paying attention, and noticed something was wrong before any real damage was done. The only thing was; it was 9:30 and dark, we had no spare hardware on us, and we were more than an hour away from the parking lot. I tried to find a "donor" bolt from some other (less-critical) place on the sled, but was unsuccessful. We were able to limp back, and get it on the trailer. I now carry some spare hardware with me.

If it was rough for the Panther, then it was really rough! That thing has a 136" track with a ton of travel! It normally handles the bumps quite well.

Definitely gotta do Warsaw this season! What I've done for the last 2 years is to get a cabin at Camp Hickory Hill in Varysburg. It's right on the trail. I usually take my son, and another friend and his son. I put the boys on the 2-up. That keeps them from going too fast...

Why not make the ride this year in that area?
We can all meet up at a designated place and go from there.

That sounds like a plan! Anybody more familiar with the area???

The only drop spot I know of was a HUGE lot at the Byrncliff Golf, Skiing, Restaurant, Hotel...Byrncliff Resort and Conference Center...Varysburg, NY. The main trail runs right through the golf course. The restaurant is set up to be snowmobiler-friendly. The food was excellent, and very reasonable. There were probably a hundred sleds there when we stopped. Parked the '80 Jag right next to an identical vintage Jag.

rgoers' Which area are you talking about?? If you are talking about the Varysburg area some friends and I are pretty familiar with It. Those trails all hook up with Genesee County trails, Letchworth Park, trails, and also take you into North Java which is some good riding. You can also get over to six flags Darien Lake from there. Shoot me a message and we can hook up and ride.
