1st pair of ski-doos...Hi!
Newbie to the thread and hoping to decrease my learning curve somewhat. A big "HELLO" to all!
Short story - traded my Harley for a pair of Ski-doos + trailer + $$. I know nothing about this sport, but have always wondered what it was like so I plan to at least take them for a spin this winter. I wasn't even in the market for a trade, let alone a pair of sleds, but figured - why not? If it isn't for us (family), I can always sell them.
2005 800 MX2X REV and a 2004 MXZ 440 REV. Both with 2k miles. The 800 has 1 1/2 Ripsaw track and 144 picks.
I will head over to the ski-doo forum, but my first challenge is to answer the question of how to get two adults and my 12 year old on the back of both these sleds? I was told both seat 1 adult (stock seats).
So, can I replace a seat on one sled for one that accomdates and adult and a teenager comfortably? Do I? Especially considering neither my wife or I have ever ridden snowmobiles before?
I think I will get real comfortable on the 800 in short order. I was thinking of taking the 440 out first, but I am also told this it is very fast as well (previous owner says it shifts about 5k rpm). Knowing nothing about this sport, but what I do know, coming from a motorcycle background (currently ride Mean Streak 1500), I certainly respect horsepower and what these sleds are capable of (local opinions).
Lots to think about and am interested in hearing opinion(s).
TIA
Matt

Welcome! The first thing to remember is they'll only go as fast as the throttle you give them. The 800 will go 10MPH if you want it to. Just get used to how they turn/handle and you'll have it licked. There are seat extensions available for REV platform sleds, which fit easily into that space behind the existing seat. Talk to a dealer, they can show you a picture of one.

Hey and welcome to the fourms. Sounds like you have some really sweet sleds. Like SEG said the sled will only go as fast as you want it to. If you have any qestions just ask.

welcome on! the 800 is fast, but the 440 is very quick. they should both be very fun sleds.
love the revs, myself. it's a great chasis, especially to get in to the sport. it may seem a bit tipsy/top heavy at first, but once you just trust it, its great. you might not even feel this though, being that you havent ridden before.

Considering that the rev rides more like a dirt bike than a street bike you should have no problems getting used to them. Sounds like the 800 will handle well with the track and pick setup. Great find and have fun this winter.
