New to the sport and site!

Hey all,

I live just south of Ottawa now, but I'm from a small town here is Eastern ON called Pembroke, and I grew up listening to sleds, I always wanted one! Well I am 30 now and am finally seriously looking! I have literally never even been on one! I am obsessing at this point.

So far, i want to keep my budget to a bare minimum. I have a new boy recently added to the family and my wife is off work as a result. The amount of snow though means I cant wait any longer!

I'm looking to spend about 1000-1500 for one i can ride right now. I'm mostly going to be trailing, so i am looking for something in the 600cc range I think, and weight isn't the most important factor. Ill almost always be riding alone, so I don't think I need a 2 up.

I am very mechanically inclined, (self taught, with the help of forums for whichever car I owned at the time) and am not afraid to work on my machine, although I'm hoping not to spend the winter getting it running.

I just wanted to say Hi to everyone, and take in any advice. Ive been perusing the site for some info on problems Ive seen on some of the sleds Ive been looking at buying online.

Thanks for hosting this!

Welcome aboard! The big 4 brands all have good sleds in your price range!

Thanks Guys.

Expect to see me around a lot, I will be asking lots of questions! Im new to sleds, and to 2 stroke engines in general.

I made a deal with a guy today for a 97 Formula Z 583. New track, new seat, new belts, and upgraded clutch internals. He has the stock clutch springs in a box for me too, so Ill have to figure out what they did there...

The sled started and ran fine when I got there, but after sitting for a few minutes we couldn't get it started. I tried holding the throttle down, and it was so close to catching but just wouldn't. He has had problems starting it from time to time, and I think its flooding. Ive read on here that this is a pretty common issue with the 583s.

Ill pick it up tomorrow and then have some fun fixing the issue.

The owner admits that he has only owned it for a short period. Bought as a part of a package deal with another Yamaha. I rode it, felt good though admittedly I don't know a lot about how it should feel.

OK well, Ill post some questions tomorrow night likely in the correct section! Thanks for the warm welcome,

Welcome to the forum. I would recommend never riding alone unless your in a spot where you can access a road for help.
