Newest noob
hi guys,
I just bought my 1st sled. It's a 85-89 Polaris Indy 500. It's an older sled but it seems to run good. I dont' know anything about sleds but I'm hoping to learn quite a bit more about them soon.

She's a runner. For whatever reason, the thing kicks a TON of exhaust out of it. If it's running in the garage for, NO KIDDING, less than 1 minute, all my clothes smell like exhaust and 2-stroke. Is that something to be concerned with?
I haven't taken it out in the snow yet, but the guy I bought it from probably weighed 300+ lbs and stood it up on his neighbor's lawn. I guess it's got it where it counts!

Not at all, nothing get you going like the smell of two stroke smoke.

One question, how is it an 85-89? Does that mean that you don't the year?

It was a really sweet model that they started in 85 and it took them 4 years to make. J/K.
The guy I bought it from didn't know the year, but I think that he probably did but wanted to play coy (so he could list it as a 'potential' 89. It's a 1985 Polaris Indy Trail. It's a 440 (not a 500). He bored it out .30. She starts 3rd pull, even when cold.
The guys on this site helped me figure out the year. Thanks to everyone here. You guys are GREAT!

Oh okay, lol. Nice sled! I'd like to pick up an older sled for a project, let the kids take it around the yard but I don't have a garage that could fit it...I guess I'll have to wait until I get a house, looking at one in Ishpeming, MI now.

WOW you like it cold! A friend of mine lives in Sheboygan Falls and has a place in Presque Isle. Nice sledding up that way.

Well, I was born/raised in Marquette, MI. Are you talking about the Presque Isle in Marquette or somewhere else?
