New to sleds but excited!

Hi my names Herb. Im from waukesha, WI. and have never before riden a sled but id like to start getting in to it. Im a small guy 5'6 and 120lbs and am looking for a sled that would be agile, easy to handle but still FAST. Any suggestions on what would make a good first sled for me? (i like the look of ski doos!) also ill primarily be riding in crivitz.

i would say a 500cc would be good to start. if you like the look of skidoo's then an mxz of some sort would be good for you. 500's are nice and light yet still have some punch to them. you could also go with a 600cc model to start. any year really is good as long as you can pick it up for a fair price.

Welcome to the forum! I agree, a 500-600 cc sled is plenty fast to get your feet wet. There are a LOT of 'em out there to choose from, so do some reading and learn what to look for so you can avoid buyer's remorse after the sale. There is a LOT of good info on here to learn from. Good luck in your search!

yea a 5-600 is good to start on. i started on my older brothers 99' Mach 1. boy did that ever make me a speed freak. Like BC_Dan said, a 5-600 is plenty fast to get your feet wet on. Enjoy the world of white and enjoy the forum!

Thanks for the help ive been looking at 600s i like the formula 3s ive seen thus far but the triple worries me ive heard there not the most reliable. what is a fair price on a 97 formula 3 600? it has 3500 miles on it i was thinking about 1400. has new skis and track as well. mxz4life crivitz is north of greenbay and they have a ton of sled trials and atv trials. i have hunting land up there and its beautiful i cant wait to rip through it on a sled!

triples are very reliable depending on how you drive them. my brother has a 99' Mach 1 700 which is a triple cylinder engine. he's had it since 2003 and has about 10000 km's on it which is around 6000 miles or so without a rebuild and they have tons of power on the top end. a 97 formula 3 is a nice sled, a fair price depending if its in good condition could be 1500 - 2000$ what does everyone else think?

those 583's were bulletproof! if you can get your hands on one for a good price i'd say 2 grand or under then grab it. my buddy had a modded out formula z 583 and that thing would haul a$$ lol would hit around 100 - 105 mph.

yup that'd be one of em. but with that 2000 MXZ you'd have the ZX chassis and an SC-10 II rear suspension. better handling and a smoother ride. the mxz would be a bit faster too. those 583's were really great though. tons of power and very reliable.

Test with both plugs out, hold throttle wide open and pull at least 3 times as fast as possible.

Anything over 125 and both cyl within 10% is good.

Welcome aboard! The 583 would be the lightest. Motors are rock solid too.
