Hi from North East MN
Hi I am just getting back into snowmobileing. I have had a broken down sled for about 9 years now and i am finally fixing it. I have the engine out and the cylinders and pitons off and I am just working on saving some $ to buy parts now. It is a 1990 Prowler 440 L\C. I blew a hole in the top of one of the pistons back in 2001 when the Cat dealer sold me the wrong plug one heat range too hot. I was just a dumb kid then so I just threw the plugs in with out making sure they were the same. Oh well. I look forward to getting help and hopefully giving some help to all. Thanks.

Welcome! I'm surprised a plug just one range higher would do that

Welcome in...almost waverunner/dirtbike season...gives ya a lot of time to fix all the problems with the sled before it snows again. It doesn't matter if its new or old it will always give you some sort of problem before you can ride it...or enjoy it................

I was surprised too, but apparently it is more common than I thought.

I would be looking at crank seals or the rubber carb adapters for air leaks too. One step hotter shouldn't cause that problem unless something else is also amiss. Make sure the jets are the correct ones for your temperature and elevation too!
That '90 Prowler is a fun sled, I had one for a bunch of years. Just sold it 2 seasons ago to one of the guys at work. They are very light and a blast to ride. He is still zooming around on it as well!

Do you mean the boots from the carb to the air box?

No, between the carb and the engine.
