Newbie in Minnesota

I'm been wanting a snowmobile for 30 years. I rode one when I was a kid in Indiana, and I was hooked. Now, finally, at age 40, I can actually afford one. I just bought a Yamaha RS Venture GT and have lots of basic questions.

I don't want to annoy anyone with my VERY basic (to you, they're basic but to me, hard) questions so I would like to know where I should post stuff like this...

1)what's the diff between helmet styles? Doesn't the motocross style wearer get a frozen face? or

2)Do I need to invest in heated clothing or is that a waste of money? Can anyone help?

Thanks. Tim

heated clothing in my book is a waste of hard earned cash....just invest in some good bibs and jacket a fleece pull over and dress in layers and you will be good in most temps...unless extreme ....i prefer an open face mx style helmet with a good goggle...i have quick straps on my goggles very handy...just make sure you by a good breath deflector and buy a head skin and your face will be good...do note though when it's very cold i do use a full face helmet...just for added protection

thanks! Can I ask 2 more questions?

1. My Yamaha manual says regular gas is fine, but I thought it also said that a max of 5% alcohol was the limit. Isn't most "regular" gas a 10% alcohol blend nowadays? Should I use premium? or should I go to one of those rare stations that offer non-oxygenated gas?

2. Is standard motor oil fine? I thought maybe since it only needs to be changed yearly, it might be smarter to use a premium product like synthetic Amsoil or something? Is THAT a waste of money?

Thanks again!

Welcome aboard! It's a regular 4-stroke motor, but it's a COLD weather motor. Use the best oil you can afford. You can get additive to help the octane of the fuel. Ask an auto parts store their opinion.
