Hello

Hello all: Newbie question. I’m looking into buying my first sled, I have it down to a Cruiser, not sure what make but leaning towards Arctic Cat or Polaris. I’m past the point in my life where speed is the most important thing for me when considering my sled, comfort and enjoying the outdoors is more what I’m looking at. Most if not all my adventures are going to be on groomed trails in northern Michigan and the Michigan UP area, I’m in northern Ohio. I want to be able to take my wife along when I’m on the trails and this is a matter of great concern to me. She is willing to try snowmobiling with me but she would never get on her own sled, she’s leery of Farris Wheels. A fellow was telling me when he was on the back of a sled and it was a “treacherous and physical ordeal just trying to stay on”. This just about took away all my enthusiasm.
It would help if some of the experienced riders would give me their thinking on passenger comfort, this would help me decide on just what direction to take.
Thanks for the answers and the forum.

Are you looking for a new sled, or used? As far as Cat goes, the new touring sleds are great. They have backrests, even heated seats now! Just like riding a Honda Goldwing.

Welcome to the forum!! The 2-up touring sleds are very comfortable for the passenger.Your wife would be suprised. Cat sounds like a great choice for the touring sleds also.

Hello & Welcome, Boz! A friend of mine rode a Polaris 2-Up for years - she hated it. BUT, that's because she never had a passenger & it was diffictlt to maneuver through the corners (we ride up around either Tipler, WI or Hurley, WI - groomed trails). However, people that DID ride it with two people - either as the passenger or as the driver - loved it.

I know you said your wife won't drive her own, but has she tried? I'm kind of comparing apples to oranges here, but I've hated every single motorcycle ride I've been on, and I really think it's because I feel like I'm completely out of control as the passenger. I'd much rather be my own driver - especially on a sled.

Heated seats? What is this world coming too? That is just lame... What's next? Stereos and Subs on the sled? Spinner Boggie Wheels... Holy shit! I could market those things! (R) Meaning its my idea! Haha!

Welcome and Happy Trails

Most of the newer 2up sleds have adjustable backrest and heated hand warmers (and sometimes footrest heaters) for the passenger. If she's warm, most likely she'll be happy to ride with you. Even on occasion taking the control seat too. If she does that, you can probably count on buying another sled soon so she can have her own to ride.

Don't get a 2 up sled!!! Make her ride her own. I know this from personal experience. My wife wanted to do the "doubling" thing at first too and I hated the restrictions that come with doubling. If she gets on a mid-sized sled that's set up properly for her weight and ability she'll never wanna ride with you on your sled again. The new sleds are so easy to ride. A set of FRS radios and away you go!
