Total noob here, never owned a snowmobile, only motorcycles.
Looking to buy something older and cheap just to putt around on ($1500-$2000) and see if I like it.
A few questions -
1) What are some of the questions I should ask when buying used? Whats important?
2) Can I buy some sort of attachment or trailer to put skis on and drive up to a ski hill or is that illegal?
3) Generally how much does all the gear cost?
4) Does anyone know the price to access the trails, +license, registration, etc annually in Quebec?
5) Do I need a special licenses or training course to own/drive a snowmobile in Quebec?
Than you very much for your help and guidance!

Welcome!
Ok let me give a basic break down, remember Canada may be higher in prices?
First ask about what all maintenance has been done!
Go through our How Too section and get an idea on what you may need to do?
A snowmobile will be able to just drive straight up a ski hill no problem, not say the owner of the resort will approve, but they are capable!
OK Cost, (I wear Cat Gear) Bibs new can go from 350-400 or 50 at like Farm and Fleet!
Jacket (again I wear Cat) again can be 300-350 or a good ski jacket $75-100
But I bought my Cat Bib and Jacket a coupla years old from a swap meet for $50 for both!
Shop around and see what you like!
Boots (again I wear Cat from EBay $15!) Sorels or better $100-150?
Registering a sled in Wi just went up I believe its $35 a year or two?
And in Mich there are trail passes I believe are $35 this season?
But remember used is ok, especially as you are just getting started! I bet I have 20 spare sets of bibs and jacket and boots!
And don't get me started on helmets!
Hope that helped?
Now what kinda riding do you think you will be doing?
What is in your area to ride?
What kinda sled are you thinking of?
Thanks for the info! I think I'll be doing pretty simple riding around here, there is a provincial trail that passes behind my house and apparently the trails around Quebec go everywhere and are pretty awesome. I'd like to take my daughter and go riding sometimes and just explore. Nothing crazy.
I found a 2006 Ski-Doo Summit 550 with 3390KM that appears in great shape (no rust, been covered, one owner) for $2000. That seems to be a really good price. Any thoughts?
Sounds like a perfect beginner sled!
I would go ahead and post what you have found and give your details in the general section and a lot more people will be more than happy to give you additional advice!
One of the GREAT things about THIS forum, no one will belittle you for 'what' you ride!
For instants my newist sled is an 04 Pantera 800 efi, but the sled I ride around my area (low snow conditions is a 87 Ovation 340!
