im confused. i didnt say i knew about mountain riding, i mentioned the reviews where i heard what was better. if i said i knew what was better and i didnt read it, or i didnt give a source, it would be different. as far as someone not liking the rev, i asked him why not. i know people dont like it. but others say they dont when they need to get used to it. i odnt push it, i dont work for skidoo so i dont make any money if he buys one because of something i said.

and derr ohio doesnt have any mountains. where is the relevance to what you said? because i said a 166" track is useless here because it is. i know its needed out west. its probably good for him, but bad for me.

tipped rails

tipped rails make all the differace i just took the indy with a 1.5 136" turned the skis and did a slow circle then i did the same with the rmk 2x159" tipped rails and the inside ski track on the rmk is 3" bigger so i think if there is a chance that you might find deep powder or a hill go for a long track as long as your rails are tipped
if i was riding hard trails i think i would run 136"-144" with tipped rails

136" performs well on trails.

sorry, 03700xc, im still missing it what i was getting at is that i hated the rev at first. hated it. but i rode it for a while, and liked. since it's a completely different chasis, it will feel weird. i dunno, maybe it didnt come out right...some negatives about are that taller people say their knees hit, while others just dont like the feel at all. so if it sounded like i was pissed or mad that someone didnt like the rev, thats not how i wanted it do sound. i was just curious.

i believe the only reason they gave why AC didnt have the best mountain sled this year was because it was unchanged.

(just read through all of the posts...atleast 2 other people said damn near the same exact thing i did. or is it because i asked why?)

I have a 04 700 vertical escape 151. It does great boondocking and hillclimbing, but at the same time its not so big it screws you over when your in the air. As for trail riding who cares sleding in the mountains is all about staying off the trails.

You cant get better if you never push yourself... Thats a good motto I think ill keep it

Yeah I have to agree with you there. I'm not much of a trail rider unless I'm with the family.

Well either way I know I've heard a lot of good reviews about the rev too so I'm not here to say anything bad about it. Hey cal67, what do you mean about tipped rails? Sounds like a good thing, but I have no clue what it is haha. Write back if you check this to let me know.

tipped rails

well tipped rails really means slightly bent
on my 159" about the last 18" of the rails is tipped up about 1/2" so that on hard or flat trails there is only about 24-30" of track on the ground
i will measure all this today and give you better measurements

They started putting tipped rails on the RMK's back in 2000. I know they did on the 144's, but I'm not sure on the 136's.

I,ve ridden a few revs and they seem to be okay once you get used to the position. Around this area i've never needed more than a 121 to get the job done, although I have been in some hairy situations where a 136 would have helped out. I never plan on buying a sled with a track bigger that 121, beter menuverability, lighter, easier to whip around and boondock. and when you get on a sled with a 121, some power, and 1.5 or 2 inch lugs you better hang on for the ride.

My 133.5 handles fine on trails and does pretty good in powder. I'd rather have a 136 just because nobody makes 133.5" tracks that much, I don't know what Polaris was thinking when they came up with that track length. I wouldn't ride on anything shorter because I love the powder. I'd like to give 144" a shot, and definitly some taller lugs.

I can make my sled go the same places as my buddies M1 with a 159x2.25 tipped. It just takes me a little more finese...

I have never pushed my sled as far as it will go on the hills. Sounds funny, but I just dont want to be one of those guys being shishkebobbed after an avalanche. But, when I do point it towards the top, it has never let me down... short of disintegrating a belt or two. Hit it Pu$$y!!!!!
Yeah up here 121's are sort of a commodity. Groomers are few and far between. This is my first season on the 144x15x1.25 and I am already looking for a 2" lug track. We stay off the trail as much as possible. My sis's 03 rmk 550 has a 136 that was nice on trails but didn't quite have the bite in the deeper stuff. I usually ended up short of where I was trying to get to. But it did alright for a 550. Have yet to take the switchback into some real back-country though. But I think 144-151 is best for the average mountain/boondock rider. Unless you unload your trailer right off the peak of the mountain...then you might like the beasty 159s and 162s. wish mine was 16" wide but we can't all have our cake and eat it too. BTW anyone do a 144-151 edge extension kit? I was thinking of getting one just to have an option depending on where I'm riding but not sure how much time it takes to switch over...might be more trouble than its worth.

144 inch rules. it climbs as good as longer ones but it actually turns on the trails.

(Bringing up an old thread just because i just joined)

I ride a 700 with a 144. I really enjoy it. It will go almost anywhere as my dads 03 escape with a 159, and will go where a buddys 800 144 wont. Rolling has almost the perfect track. It turns nicely and yet still has alot of sq.inches on the ground.

Rolling, Where do u mostly ride?

The only thing I don't like is there's NO leg room for a taller person.

I got a rev november of 05 and this position is made for tall people. I am over 6 foot and it was nice to have my butt sitting higher than my knees for once. This causes the sled to almost never bottom out and to make the transition from sitting to standing is nice. Now I can burn a whole tank on a good day and don't feel it till the next morning. The track is 16" wide and lenght is 151". My next sled will have the 159 if that day ever comes.

I love my 2" 144 i can ride the trails and keep with the 121's pretty close and i can clime pretty much anywhere. But if you know how to handle your sled you can prety much do anything with it. It really depends where your riding most if your all trail riding a 121 is by far the best and all mountian go 151 or 162 otherwise its your choice in between. Good luck
