A new sled

Hey, what up guys? I checked out this forums and it seemed a good place to join.

Ive been riding for about 4 years (Im 16 now) and I want to get a new sled. I live out west so you know what that means, steep and deep, yeah man!

What kind of machine as far as brand and model do you think I should keep an eye out for? I want to use it for the deep snow and hillclimbing.

thanx

first, you are blessed for living out west! second, welcome on!

well, the summits are nice (from skidoo). i am not exactly sure what is best in the mountains, but RMK's are popular on here.

thanks for the welcome

I'm kind of tall at 6'2'' so I was thinking the Mountain REV's might be a good choice? What ever I find it will have to be used because a new sled is out of the question for me.

the rev is fine for taller people. there are a couple people who are around 6'2 that ride the rev, so i wouldnt take it off the list of possibilities. my dad rode an 04 summit-rev, and said it was amazing.

one guy was really uncomfortable on the rev, but we found out it was because he was riding in the position as if it were the older chasis. once we got this corrected, he loved it.

Any mountain sled is nice! RMK, Mountain Cat, M series, Summit... If you have no preferences, pick a color, find the best deal for your $$ and go for it!

I like the look of skidoo's 16'' wide tracks, has anyone here ridden a summit with the 16'' track? Not that I'll necessarily be getting one I was just wondering what people thought of them.

I luv my Summit! I have rode M7, 1M, Mtn Vector, RMKs, Renegades, F7 and a few Im sure Im forgetting in just this season alone.
Once you get used to the riding position on a Summit, you will have a hard time making any other style sled do what you can do on a REV.
I ride a stock 600HO with a HPS can. My sled is stock, tuned to me and the preference I like to ride. The only thing I dont like that Skidoo did was go cheap on the secondary clutch. It fails to backshift in the powder when it gets hot. And it gets really hot really fast!! Next season, roller secondary. Done.
As it sits, I have absolutely no probs going where much bigger sleds go, the sled is much more capable than I am.
The floatation of the 16" is very similar to a 15" 151 track. (mines 144x16) The only real benefit to going longer is the ability to hold steeper side hills. The rear wont wash out as fast. But the balance on the REV is second to none. You can hold a side hill just like a top. I could keep going and going, but long story short, I believe you will be happy if the sled you choose is a Summit!!
Good luck!

I am a Yamaha fan, but also like the Ski-Doo line. I don't think you will go wrong with either. To each his own. I am looking for a MXZX right now, my son want's to race sno-cross.

just read an article on last year's (600HO, i believe). they said that it would seem that the track is hard to turn fast, but they were the first up the hill in long climbs. plus, they said the 800 would have no problem at all.

yeah, I read that the 16's had similar floatation to longer tracks with 15'' and so you could have the benifits of a shorter track without losing floatation. That combined with the Rev chassis sounds like a pretty sweet setup to me.

Yerh!, I guess everybody knows that guy who can outride all the friends and their friends on any high end mtn. sled. You know! that guy with a deathwish!. I know that it runs cold down my back when hes showing off...hes a good friend.
Last year he came climbing back over the ledge while his mtn.cat 900 didnt stop until a couple of 100 yds below. It wrecked of course......the king 900 162" is on its way

Hey don't go with a 600HO. If your a true climber anything less then an 800 or 700 willn't cut it. My bubby rides a 05' 600ho rev and he wasn't able to climb very good unless it was on hard pack. Which sucks! I personally wouldn't go with anything lower then an 800. I do think the M7 are good sleds and the new 700 polaris but anything that has less power then that doesn't cut it. The 16" wide track does a hell of alot in the deep powder but it willn't help much on the steep hills. It is a great idea though i wish polaris would come out with a 16" track. What ever you do go with a sled that can pull up the big hills. Theirs not much that can stop a 800 159".
