REV Summit Clutch Overheating

My 04 Summit exhibits the 'point and shoot' clutching that is famous for skidoos. Really crappy backshifting in DEEP snow and when climbing for long periods.
I was told by the dealer that I cant run a roller secondary becaus my sled has RER, Is this true? If so, why??
I also have a problem with failure to shift up past 7500 rpm when the clutches get hot. Ive tried running the 800HO belt, the Dayco Ultimax3 and factory 600HO belt. Tonight I removed the plastic from the belt guard, hopefully that will get more airflow throught the clutches. Any other tips?

Springtime riding in Alaska is just opening up, and I really dont want to be down with problems... Any help is appreciated

not yet, I will be shopping for a roller secondary next season. Im not sure which one Im going to use.

I will be riding tomorow (saturday) and hopefully be in some deep snow. The removal of the plastic shield portion of the belt guard is supposed to relieve some of the heat retention. I will find out and post up!

I usually use brake cleaner and scotch brite on the clutch sheaves after every ride, as well as brake cleaner on the belt. If it will be more than a day or so, I remove the belt and store it flat and round so it doesnt stay in an improper shape.

I think some of the problem is that the belt is too sticky...like there is a fine line between slipping and over sticky. It slips untill it gets hot enough to grip, and then it wont let go of the sheaves. Kind of like a tire with a slow leak will sortof reinflate itself as the inside air expands as it gets hot...only to explode later.. LOL!

Sooo... We put on about 70 miles on saturday, north of Anchorage in the Petersville area, we rode the Toakasitna river up to the glacier. When we got close to the glacier the snow became deeper than we thought, about 18 inches of fluff on a 12 foot base. Broke in a new belt on the way up and low speeds and mid thottle. Beat on it pretty hard on the way out and have absolutely no problems at all. one long stretch at about 75-80 mph for 20 minutes solid and when we stopped, the clutches were warm to the touch.

I still need some waist deep powder to see if the fix is for real, but at this late in the season, I may have to wait till next winter...

For now, if anyone here is experiencing belt overheating with thier REV's, I strongly reccomend geting the drill out and popping the rivets on the cover for more airflow.
