How to carve through powder?

Now that I've got a cross between a mountain and trail side I'm anxious to try to carve through powder. There's no mountains without trees where I ride, so the only real place I can do it is on our lake where powder piles high. Before I'd just go through it but now I want to carve through it. I'm a newbie at this, so I hope I'm even naming it correctly. But what's the technique?

Lean into it and be sure to turn the skis the opposite direction to keep the tips from digging in.

Find a good meadow where there's powder. Deep is better. Then steer to the left and lean to the right, as RJ said. Pop the sled up a little, you can get on one ski with ease. The ski that is in the snow needs to counter-steer, as the part behind the spindle is acting as a rudder, pulling in the opposite direction the bars are pointing. At the same time, you will learn to feel the balance point, too far, you get to fall on your butt. (deep powder keeps your body intact, but not your pride )

When you can start doing full circles on one ski in one direction.. try the other direction. It takes a whole different set because of your throttle hand position. When you can carve either direction at will, then start climbing hills where you can practice using the technique to sidehill across the face. Open spaces are great for this, trees make good brakes. Then as you practice, you can make tighter and tighter circles, to the point you can turn the sled around very aggressively using the throttle and countersteer. It's pretty cool when done right!

I want to carve this winter too. What's the minimum amount of snow I should be trying it on? Should I even be trying with my 2000 polaris 700 xcsp? It's only a 121 trail sled so I'm not sure.

You can carve with a short track, you need at least 2 feet of snow to do it well.

It's still in the trail system! My family has a camp in Woodford Lake Estates. It's across from the Lake View Motel, and i live like 3 minutes from the club.
