When there's less than 2' of fresh snow, falling off when trying to carve hurts more...

I'ma try carving with my good ol 700 xcsp. The thing is a beast. I hope I can pull it off lol. We'll get some good 2 feet + snowstorms..... light snow is expected for sunday already!

Oh then I wont be climbing mountains. Maybe it is carving. All I will be doing is shifting to one side for a half circle in light powder on my lake.

The ski that is in the snow needs to counter-steer, as the part behind the spindle is acting as a rudder, pulling in the opposite direction the bars are pointing. At the same time, you will learn to feel the balance point, too far, you get to fall on your butt. (deep powder keeps your body intact, but not your pride )

When you can start doing full circles on one ski in one direction.. try the other direction. It takes a whole different set because of your throttle hand position. When you can carve either direction at will, then start climbing hills where you can practice using the technique to sidehill across the face. Open spaces are great for this, trees make good brakes. Then as you practice, you can make tighter and tighter circles, to the point you can turn the sled around very aggressively using the throttle and countersteer. It's pretty cool when done right!
"Trees make good brakes." LOL
