Smile Riding the Snowys.. help from the vets

Hey Guys,

New to the forum here, and need a little help with a ride we are planning out in the Snowys...

We are heading out mid march and everyone in our group is a virgin to the Snowys. We are riders on a budget as I think most everyone can relate to, but would love some input and advice on lodging, location, and rental.

We are looking for a fair priced motel with good mountain access. I have absolutely no clue what the area is like so If any of you guys that have ridden out there could help me out it would be appreciated!

We also might be renting a sled so If you could point me towards a good shop (ski-doo) that would also help.

Thanks alot for you help!! Any info you can shoot my way is helpful!

Cenntennial wy is the area to head to.We stayed at winter creek condos 2 yrs ago, rented the overlook cabin and were very happy.Just a hint...the prices on their web site were negotiable then matbe still are.You have to trailer your sleds a few miles every day to the end of the road where Snowy mt lodge(another possibility, nice place) is located but not a big deal for us.

I have only been to the snowy's once and had a good time. The terrain isn't as extreme as Cooke city but there was plenty of hills to climb and areas enough to go boondocking all day. The biggest complaint I've heard is the wind blows through there alot and can shut you down for a couple days at a time.

You should have a blast there. They have over 100" of snow base right now.

Yes it has been pretty warm around here lately. I will be able to give you more accurate information after this weekend. Some friends of mine are going to the snowies this weekend.

Hey Minnesota. I just got back from the snowies today.. It is sweet up there. About 8-10 foot base with 6 fresh inches of snow last night. Everyone I talked to said they should have snow up to the end of april atleast. We had a blast. As soon as I get the stuff off of my camera I will put some links up here.

heres one quick pic I have from today..

Perfect! Thanks for the update Kevin.

Right now we are planning on staying at Mountain Meadows Cabins (38 miles west of Laramie). Do you have an opinion on this place as far as access to good riding goes? Or can you point me towards anywhere else I should look into?

Thanks Again for the update

I went to a poker rally yesterday, and there was a consistant 2 1/2' of fresh powder everywhere!!! in the feilds, on the hills, in the valleys there was more, but it was awesome!!!! we expect to have snow here for another six weeks, then comes some water riding in ditches!! last year we were riding into may!

Ya Haro one of these years I am going to make it up there to do some riding.

Minnesota I dont have a clue on that side. I have never been over there. We go in south of Saratoga. We ride in from "The Place" lodge. The Place . Cool thing about going in where we do its only about 8-10 miles in and you can watch the big boys trying to climb the "Widow Maker hill". If you dont know about this hill do a search on Youttube for it. ITs nuts and definitely not for me either. I like my equipment to much for that stuff.

i like going to the rocky foothills, there is so much nice riding there, lots of ungroomed trails, usually untouched, there is so many places to ride here that many dont even get used all year

I was just looking on the map. You will be only about 4-6 miles from the widow maker hill on the east side. Take Trail "U" west and it will lead you right to it. From there, there are trails all over that you can ride on. I ride on "N" mainly and there are a lot of big open valleys you can play in and hills to climb. When are you guys going there?

here is my buddy on his 800 dragon yesterday in the snowies.

Here is the end of the day for Our Polaris. I found a creek in the meadow and unfortunately I broke the steering collumn on it and had to park it for the day.
