600 for powder?

Hello all, I am interested in getting a newer sled for next season. I currently have a 95 polaris indy 500 which has been a good trail sled but it's getting tired and I'd like to try playing in the deep powder.

I would realy like to get a 2000-2004 600cc Yamaha. something with a little more snap but that I can still afford to put insurance on.

My question is this, Could a 600cc Yamaha be used or altered to run deep snow? (longer/deeper track, clutch kit, different grearing...)

Also, what is the difference between the Venom, mountain max? are they built on the same chassis with a different track or are they a completely different sled?

I'm definitely new to mountain riding so any help would be appreciated.
Maloney

yea a 600 can be extended and clutched and geared and still work fine. as for the venom and mountain max i would go for the MAX already has taller bars and a longer paddle track

600 for powder

maloney:
the newer 4 stroke yamahas are heavy for powder/mountain riding, especially if you are new at it. For an older sled, the 98-04ish Polaris RMK's were a good mountain chassis.
For a newer unit, the 04-present Skidoo REV chassis are hard to beat. They are lighter and easier to throw around.

Yes I'm not a big fan of the 4-strokes. Some friends of mine run them and they're good sleds (trail riding) but just not my cup of tea.

I think I'm either interested in about an '03 Yamaha 600 or the 600 Rev (04 or 05). I like the Yammis for their reputation for reliability, but I REALY like the lines and stand-up design of the REV.
I'll probably buy a REV, You only live once!

Another really nice sled is the AC m7 series. They handle very nice in the powder.
