I just checked them all out at the sneak peak here in Spokane, WA. My thoughts you can't go wrong with either. Both have some steering issues, the ski-doo handel bars slop toward the rider so when I stood up and leaned over the hood they were real close to my belt line. The M's telescoping system seemed a little sloppy but that might not be a big issue IMO because you can't rely on steering in deep snow. If I was a hi-marker I would get the M1000, JMO. The M's front suspension has not been beat yet by the way no front arms are stacked that doesn't rob the pony's nearly as much. Liked the RMK's but the front suspension makes me nervous and don't want to go back to that set up again. No major changes between an 07 and 09M8, not a bad thing. Good luck.

The m1000 should be a good up-grade. On my last post I ment to say the ski-doo handle bars slope toward the rider NOT slop. Kind of a surprise to me because all the pics show them straight up. Just another reason why I am nervous about the snow ckecks.

First of all these newer Cat sleds are simply amazing but I headed out to a demo a few months back and rode an M1000...not impressed. The power band absoloutely blows in a hardcore way until you get it wound up. I rode the turbo M1 and it was simply amazing of course lol. Anyways ive talked to some of the M1 owners around here and they would agree, the M1s are dogs stock but with a little bit of mods and a little fine tunning they are awesome machines which I dont doubt.
Second I think if you ligned up a stock M1 against a stock XP 800 the XP would walk all over the M1 all the way to the top. The Xps are simply amazing and not because of horsepower but because of weight savings. They are amazing in deep snow to, Snowest took all the big mountain sleds out this year and said that there is only one sled to date that you would have to actually TRY to get stuck, and that was the XP.
BUT! I would not buy an XP! Its too new, I would wait atleast another 2 or 3 years before considering one because until then they are going to have plenty of problems, but after they get the kinks worked out of the 800r motor, and all the other little odds and ends that have issues it will be THE sled to beat up on the hill.
