2002 mountian cat 800 efi

hey.. im pretty new to sled riding.. was wondering if you guys could help me out.

im looking at purchasing a 2002 mountian cat 800 EFI for riding the powder up where i live for 2,500$

the sled im looking at has 3500 miles on it, seller couldnt tell me the compression on the cyclinders, no service records.. looks nice, starts on first pull on warm days... always starts on the third pull when cold out.. It has a 151" track and is in nice condition, after market can and 2" bar risers..

also what else should i ask the seller?

can be ridden now

is it worth it? or should i shop around a little more

here is a picture of the sled

3500 miles is a lot for a mountain sled. Look to make sure nothing is bent and put a good load on the suspension and see if it comes back up. Look under the hood at wires, for oil leaks, and major rust. Buying used is always a risk but is a good choice for the first sled. It is the end of season so if you buy I would not take it without a good deal under 2000. See how close you can get to 1600, but ckeck blue book value first. Also a mountain sled needs fresh snow for cooling that 800 engine and it could burn up in you just trail ride. You may also want to post this qustion in the artic cat section and someone should beable to tell you more about what to look for in the engine. Good luck .

Looks like nice sled with a few ad ons to the cosmetics as well.$2500 is not a bad deal either for a 02' with that low of miles mountain sled or not!

EFI = Great, no fussing with jetting to compensate for altitude and temp changes.
Have you had a chance to try it out?
Take a close look in the engine compartment and look for signs of wrench marks on any of the bolts.
This will tell you if any work has been done to the engine, other than the recoil.

Otherwise, except for the seat, it looks great. At this time of year, you can usually get a better price for you as the buyer. I'd try for $1800-2000 and no more.

Kyle t believe me a mountain sled can run into a lot of problems in 3500 miles. Lots have to do with the rider but deep snow sleds run high rpm's, throwing snow and hill climbing all the time causing more wear and tear on the engine, and just hitting objects hidden in the snow. If you end up liking the off trail ride a person tends to find away to buy new or slighty used mountain sleds because they have seen or heard of all the horror stories from other riders. Make sure you get a back pack that holds a snow shovel also.
