Please use beacons guys

I dont have a link yet but I'm looking...anyways 3 snowmobilers were killed at lamonga pass CO on Saturday by an avalanche...all three where high marking and set it off. There were 7 riders below and they emediately called search and rescue and started searching themselves. No one had beacons or probs. By the time Search and Rescue showed up the 3 riders had been buried for 47 minutes and by the time they found the first rider 69 minutes had passed. This is a wake up call to all of us mountain riders! Don't be stupid! Beacons may be expensive but is your life not worth 300 dollars?

Good advice.
On the news here in Western Canada again this AM, 2 more sledders killed in avalanches over the weekend. Separate incidents. Similar area within about 100 miles of each other. Avalanche conditions are extreme in our neck of the woods right now and it's snowing hard at this moment.
Extremely bizarre and unfortunate incident at our local ski hill, Big White, on Sunday morning this past weekend. A 22 year old snowboarder from Australia was killed while boarding "within" the ski hill boundaries. On a steep area called the Parachute Bowl which is part of The Cliff run, a section of snow let go about 6 acres in area and swept up three boarders. A 12 year old boy and a 21 year old male were able to free themselves but at the end of the day the deceased 22 year old was reported missing. He was last seen by his friends about 1/2 hour before the avalanche. Avalanche search dogs located his body yesterday afternoon about 8 ft. below the surface.
Very sad but lucky only one victim as Big White is extremely busy on weekends. Over 70,000 people up there this past weekend.
No high-marking around here for awhile!
Stay safe everybody!

I've got room for about 12 to 14, if the wife leaves 15.
Sorry! Not trying to rub it in but just sharing some scenery from our rides.
Cheers.

Washington State an avalanch claimed the life of a 7th grade girl that was snow shoeing with family and friends on a marked trail. Sad story and this has been a bad year!

Wow. How sick you would you feel as a parent when a day of family fun turns so tragic.

That just it, how would you feel when you were not really doing anything risky. News reported a cornis just broke away and covered the trail. This will be the year to also stay away from those steep slopes instead of just staying off.

It is a beautiful spot here but nothing wrong with the Kootenays either.

9 people killed in CO by avalanches already and 12 in Washington.
Some of these people had beacons but didn't know how to use them...If you buy one actually take the training classes!!! Talk to your local search and rescue. They will teach you all of it along with CPR and other things you may need along the way for little to no cost.

Ortovox, Pieps, SOS all make good beacons. I think the best one is the one you have on you when you need it... Digital beacons are easier to use, but the analog type may pick up a signal further away... some of the newer ones offer both features. You can find 'em on ebay for lots less, or maybe on SnoWest... absolutely necessary to have ON you and in your group! I want the guys riding with me to have the BEST made! (just in case!!) You are pretty helpless without a beacon, shovel, and probe at affecting any kind of rescue... spend the bucks, get prepared! And take a class if you can find one! The best beacon is the one you NEVER have to use! Beacons, shovels, probes will NOT keep you alive if you do stupid things and are buried. It is vital you know what you are looking at when you hit those slopes. Like Jaded said, some days it's time to spend the day in the low elevations, playing in the meadows or through the trees!

Go here for some good info on many of the brands.
