please help me decide on sled
I've never owned a sled. I live in colorado and plan on riding near vail, rabbit ears pass etc. ( deep powder, steep slopes and trails) I've been dirtbiking for ten years so i want a sled that i can catch some air on and is somewhat manuverable. Other than ripping around on trails and such, I want to use it to take myself and friends up the hill to ski down, so I need to be able to carry myself, another person and skis or snowboard. I love four stoke technology but I also like a light weight, manuverable machine. I don't know anyone personaly that knows alot about sleds so I've been reading for hours online and looking on the manufacturer websites. I'd like to find a sled a couple years old. So far I've been thinking about the Yam. srx, Arctic cat m7, or a ski doo summit. Can anyone tell me anything about these sleds? What track length? Would a Yam. 4 stroke do me well? Is there any website that I can learn alot on? Thanks for any help. Ro

If you are thinking about the SRX, forget about it, you will spend more time digging yourself out than sledding....
I have an RMK 900, its awesome in the deep powder, hard to get it stuck..
Also, the Summit is a great sled, if you are doing a lot of deep powder, or mountain riding, you will want at least a 151" track.

you dont want a yami theyre tanks!!!
Go with a skidoo summit highmark 800 or 600 and if you want to jump it I wouldnt go to far with the track so I would say a 144" track
If you dont want a skidoo go with a cat

Actualy if you read the new snotech mag the new 07 Phazer mountain sled got awesome reviews they compare it too a arctic cat m series the way its so nimble. Also said it had way more power than they ever thought. Its not a tank its prettys light for a yami they say its the best mountain sled from yamaha.
Here's a quote from them
We about fell over when Yamaha showed us the 144” track version with 2” lugs called the Phazer Mountain Lite. Yes, the 80 HP engine has enough torque to spin this much rubber, and it hooks up and launches with enough authority to make you shake your head in disbelief. The EFI system keeps it spot-on, about all you have to do is get it geared and clutched for the riding elevation. When you need a highly-maneuverable deep snow sled, here it is. We’re not sure on the weight spec, but it’ll be a heck of a lot lighter than any other 4-stroke mountain sled. Ski stance is narrower, skis are straight from the Apex Mtn. We realize many riders will have to ride one to believe it, but by that time it’ll be too late to get one of your own. This marks the return of smaller, lighter, less expensive sleds to the slopes. This is the coolest lightweight factory boondocker ever made.

Thanks for the replies
Those sleds are the ones I had narowed dowm to ( Summit and the m7) I have to say the phazer did really catch my interest. It looks like its got dirtbike ergonomics. Still 500 lbs. though. Probably not good for taking friends up the hill. it seems most people think the phazer mtn lite does not have enough horsepower. it will be nice to here some real rider reviews this winter.

Mountain sled are not set up for passengers!!! They are only one seaters and with all the power they will leave them behind kissing snow and other body parts they can't normaly reach. Most important skiers and snowmobiles just don't mix to well on the mountain. For choices on good sleds I would look hard at the summit rev 800 with a 151 inch track that is 16 inches wide. I don't jump much to speak of on mine but there is a huge difference from dirt bikes. The fun with mountain sleds is cutting up fresh snow.

Get the Summit 151 and put the optional 2-up seat on it.

The rev summit hit the market in 03 04 season, so they are starting to show up used. Since then sleds rode with the same riding position. The polaris verticle escape is real nice for deep snow. Polaris is more stable and the ski doo's feel like they are going to tip easier. Makes it nice for boon docking in deep snow but the rider has to have confidence and experiance on the older machine. The rev gives a rider both of these options by what I can tell and if you see one in an ad for a good price pick it up. Do your homework first on some things to watch out for because these toys do get beat up, fixed, and sold.
I have seen one 2 seater option, looks like the 2 riders still have to stay on the trail. At least I would.

M7's for $7200
I found a guy selling '06 m7 efi 153 new for $7200 (final price). I guess it is some '06 factory leftover deal. I'd have to put $500 down and wait about a month for it. Is this a good deal. This deal is in Colorado. I think i'd rather have a summit x but I can't find a deal on this sled. Anyone know of a deal on the summit x?
