How About a 05 sabercat 600 lx in the mountains?

I bought my sabercat back in 04 and have only trail rode. I was wondering if it would do good in the powder. I have the 128" not the EXT.

I edited your post, RJ, because it only brought up the first post, not the whole thread.

YA, but this is a different sled than a 72 580. It has a 128inch track, 118 horse power compared to 85, plus the motor sits much lower in this. This is why i started this thread!

It was a '97 not a '72. But either way, with the 121 track, you will not have the floatation that even a 136 would have. If you stay in someone elses tracks, you should be ok, or at least have someone nearby that can help dig it out of the deep stuff.

I think he has a 128, but you'll still have some hard times blazing new mountain trails with it. That's why they're up to 159" now.

last time I was browsing manufacturers websites it appeared that mountain machines work well for mountains, trail machines work well for trails, crossover machines aren't awesome at either, and utility machines pull sled trailers well.
I thought you had a 05 switchback also? Take that one if you're gonna be in deeper snow or climbing around. Even w/ a 144 it'll go decently but won't be incredibly great (since it is a "crossover") If you take the sabercat take a shovel also.

I would take my switchback but i'm waiting for new handlebars. I let my friend drive it and he tiped it and it rolled a couple times down a hill. Ya, i was real mad. Luckily he is buying me a new windsheild and handlebars!

ooo...that sucks. I'd be mad too. Thats why I take rookies out on the indy lite they can roll that sucker all they want (as demonstrated by my brother-in-law in another post) and I really don't care. The "brick house" lives on.
It sounds as if you're going riding in the real near future? Are you currently living in Antarctica or just not expecting him to buy you the windshield and handlebars in a timely manner?

Methinks he's setting his buddy up for a "burial" in the deep snow.

Whoa whoa whoa fella's. Now I know you guys have nice fluffy snow out west but over here in New England when we get snow it's about as heavy as shoveling gravel. Now I have a 121" with a 2" paddle and we go blazing up to the Canadian border and I ride with guys that have Mountain Max's SX Mountain's. I have no problem leading the pack once and a while. However, it DOES have a 2" paddle, which is quite a bit larger than the stock 5/8" to 1". But don't underestimate the power of a good low torque motor like a triple added with a good rider and 2" of traction.

what about the weight of the rider? a ligher guy might get by with a short agressive track. I am 230 and I rode a 700 144" until last year here in the montana mountains. It wasnt great and I got stuck but it makes you a better rider.
