Polaris gearing

I have a 2000 700RMK. I just put a 159"x2-1/8" track on it. It had a 144"x2" under it. I was told to gear it down. It has 20/39 gears in it now. I've never messed with gearing. How much difference does one or two teeth make? Hate to buy too many sets to find out.

Stock for the 700 in 2002 was 19/39 for the 144" track. By dropping one tooth on the top, you should be able to keep using the same chain. I have 20/40 in my 700, but the track is a 136. It has TONS of low end, but top speed is about 80. There are trade-offs. I would ride it and see if you are losing power on the hills or in the powder before you make a decision. You may be happy with what you have!

I ended up dropping one tooth on the upper gear. Now I have a 19/39 gear set. On the steep and deep at full throttle I was at 8100 RPM. I don't think I'm gonna mess with it anymore. I was really happy with the new track and gears.

i bet you are happy with your set up, i bet it rips, depending on altitude you may need to change clutch weights, i did on my rmk, also the 700 does like much more than 8100 rmps, your good for now but you wont want too much more than that, hard on your 700. just thoughts on the issue, either way it sounds like a sweet set up

I am currently running 21/39 which does wonders compared to the 23/39 I started with. Due to the fact I am between chain sizes I'll be switching to 21/41. Let you know how it goes. I do have a gearing chart for anyone that is interested. HELPS ALOT!! Wish I could post it somehow! See ya!!
