Ski Skin and Idle speed question

I have a question regarding ski skins and idle speed....

But first, I'm back on the message board after a long hot summer and have a lot of readin' to do. I put the sled away and moved on to other hobbies, so sorry in advance, but I'm back and ready for this upcoming season. One more tidbit.. I read in the paper that there was a sled race in NH on the grass this weekend. I laughed and wished I was there. Anyway...

My sled has plastic ski skins which I wore a hole through because of the lack of snow and riding on asphalt. Should I replace these or just throw them away and ride on the steel? What are your thoughts?

Next... I started my sled (AC JAG 340) every month during the summer and let it run for 10 minutes. It doesn’t idle; I have to keep it at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. If I let go it dies. I remember that during the winter I would start it, let it warm up for 2-5 minutes, ride for 30 minutes and it would idle after that. Is the 10 minute running time to little, or could it be something else.

Thanks!!

I would clean your carbs and check your chokes. The ski skins help reduce friction and also help with floation.

Your idle circuit in the carbs are dirty. Remove and clean the carbs. Replace the skins also!

SEG,

What do you think? Would it be better to replace the skis with plastic ones or just replace the skins. The skins are $50.

I'd just go with the skins. If the skis aren't rusted through, it'd be the best/cheapest way.
