unless its posted when you get near a town/village/city there is none at this point. i have heard that they want to have a speed limit of 45mph on the trails.
oh, and if its posted be prepared to see a cop on a sled. i ran across a blue polaris and didnt realize that it was a cop..i 'bout pooped in my pants after goin by him. luckily i was goin the speed limit. that was actually outside of marquette in the UP. i guess the cop is a used car salesman in the summer and a part time law enforcement agent in the winter...we found this out after stopping for gas and talking with some fellow sledders.

i would assume that they would. i originally read that in the MSA news letter/magazine that they send out.
i would bet that in a few years MI will follow suit from other states and have a speed limit. i guess it all depends on how many accidents (alcohol/non alcohol related) there are, along with noise from trails near residences.

There aren't any speed limits as far as I know. The only ones that i know of are local Village/town/city ordinances which is usually around 10-15mph.

We need one, The trails would be smoother and not torn right down to dirt. If you have riden in areas with speed limits (that is inforced) you will notice how well the trail holds up, you will also notice that when you come around a corner there are no oncomming sleds on your side of the trail
Sorry this is a touchy subject with me, I put on a lot of miles every year and have had way too many close calls from people riding too fast for the conditions or just don't know or care. I also noticed that the people that ride like they are racing someone EVERYWHERE THEY GO ***** the loudest about how rough the trail is and how they are riding on dirt, and the corners are all ice. The same corner they just entered at 70mph let off the gas for a second then hammered it exiting the corner at 20mph but the track is spinning at 300mph and there always running 280+ studs because it makes them a better rider.
Wheeeeeeoooowho!!!! I think im done, don't get me wrong I like to ride fast too but I try to do it in the right areas where im less likley to hit someone or go bombing off the trail out of control. I snowmobile for fun I would never want to have to pick someone off a tree, or have to tell someones family they were killed on the trail...

I agree to a certain extent(sp) I dont think there should be a certain speed reg. all over the sate, but in towns and residential areas, there should be and in most areas there is.

I had heard there was a speed limit in Mich. but they didn't enforce it. When i was there a few years back the bartender at the Gogebic Lodge was talking to us about it. We have a 50 mph limit in Mn everywhere and slower in towns and on twisty sections of trail, Lakes over 10,000 acres it is up to 60 mph but only during the day still 50 at night

I have never heard of anything about this, but only at night. There are no speed limits on lakes or trails, but like you said some corners are a HAZARD, so that is why the speed limit is slower. I have never heard the guy at the gogebic lodge say anyting about this, nor anybody else for that matter.

No speed limit unless otherwise posted. I live in Northern Lower Michigan in Crawford county. I would have to say that for riding around an officer you are safe as long as everything is legal, I.E. your licsense or snowmobile safety certificate, registration, working mech. condition, ect.
