Hey guys I've been thinking of taking a trip down there the day after Christmas, wwould you think that the trails are decent enough for a few day trip? we have open trails in st Croix county but there getting pretty thin and rough in spots. am I going to drive 5hours for the same thing we have here? was thinking Dane county, west bend, surrounding Madison area or wherever you guys tell me is best!

northern dane county has been groomed very well and same with columbia county around the lodi area. Very nice trails with 12-18 inches of snow throughout the area. Should be fun, going out again tomorrow morning.

do you know of a good place i could stay if we rode the Lodi area? preferrably cheaper, looking to ride straight from the motel/hotel if possible?

well we have a hotel booked in Lodi Wi for tonight, heading down there around noon, its about a 4 1/2 hour drive for us. Hoping to stay untill Sunday, looking forward to riding some different trails! If anybodys got some reccomendations on where to ride or any unique destinations let me know. <<anything from nice scenic state parks, bluffs, to nighttime establishments with scantily clad women all over and shiny round "ceiling supports" that they keep hanging off of. let me know!

Well we made the trip down to Lodi Wi, from Thurs night to late saturday night. Trails were in awesome condition with lots and lots of snow cover up until about Saturday evening. And even then some sections of trail were still great! We rode from Lodi all around the Madison area, including Columbia, Dane, and Iowa county. Very Very glad we made the trip and want to extend a huge thank you to joeblue83 and others for reccommending the area! We stayed at the Lodi Valley Suites, which was fine for what we were looking for.
About the only complaints I had was the issues down there of finding a non-resident trail permit. Spent 2 hrs driving around trying to find a gas station or any establishment that carried them, and the #1 result on the WI DNR website to get them is the Harmony Grove BP gas station, well his sticker printer/trail pass machine was supposedly broken and he refused to even try and turn it on. Maybe Im just used to where I grew up in WI where nearly all the gas stations carry them, but we had to drive roughly 30 miles into Madison, where Blains Farm and Fleet said they only had 3 stickers left, and they wouldnt hold ONE for us! How do you only have 3 left and its not even January?! But regaurdless, we got it, 2 hrs later than we hoped to we ended up on a evening ride Thurs night.
I do have to give a BIG thumbs up to the local clubs down there, Northern Dane county imparticular was groomed extremely well, the trails were marked extremely well, and I felt like they did a fantastic job with their entire trail system. Was kind of a bummer that 1/4 of the county (sw quadrant) was closed entirely because of riders riding where they werent supposed to and pissing off the land owners. But thats what you get I guess. But again, the trip was awesome, the conditions were awesome, and I had a blast. Felt a bit out of date there on a 06' Edge chassis sled though, Ive never seen so many brand new machines in my life! I was blown away.... great times!

I am glad you had a good time. Looks like we may get a couple more inches of snow wednesday and thursday. Trails are in pretty rough shape from all the weekend traffic. I am planning on going out thursday morning. Groomers should be out early next week to get the trails back into shape, and with all the very cold weather we will be getting; it should set the trails up nicely.
I will give an update thursday night about the trails in northern dane county and most of columbia county
