Planning a Trip to Grand Marais MI - Snowmobile Forum: Your #1 Snowmobile Forum

My friends and I are planning to go to Grand Marais Michigan in a few weeks, we're planning to get there the 15th of December and staying till the 21st. I have a couple of questions about the area.

Will it have enough snow on the trails? Is this a good spot to stay and snowmobile in and out of? Do we need anything more than just a trail permit? Is it legal to ride off the trail in most spots? Is the area pretty busy or congested?

We will be staying in a friend's house, so hotels are unnecessary. We will all have insurance since that's the law in Iowa (I would assume the same in MI).

You need to find out when the trails actually open? They are closed until after Deer Season?

According to their website trails are officially open December 1st. The bigger question is if this is a good time to ride, and will there be plenty of snow.

You guys have fun up there.. Hope there is snow. I'm headed to Duluth/Superior area for Christmas and hope there is enough up there to do some riding myself. We really need snow down here bad don't we. Be safe, and see you on the trails.

Ya we'll have to take a good look at the forecast before we head up, I sure hope there's plenty of snow up there, I can only assume we'll have another bad winter down here in Iowa. It's probably better to not let myself get my hopes up!

I'll make sure to take plenty of pictures as well. I hope your trip goes well too! It sure is a long drive to get to the good riding, better be worth it!
