Im from North East Iowa next to the best trails in the state! The Volga State Park and surrounding trails are literally right in my backyard, if you have never ridden them I would reccomend it. Just make sure there is enough snow and your studded, some of those wooded trails can get icy and steep.

Noth East gets the best base. Rest of the state gets a bunch in sperts but generally melts within a few weeks. Last two years have really sucked in general. Been only a few good weeks with a couple foot of snow but im sure thats the same story in IL.

last two winters in N.E. IL were so so. there is atleast one major snow storm, dumping 12"+ on the ground, then that lasts a while (1 or 2 wks). for the rest of the winter, snow is sporattic...nothing steady.

I'd like to add my name to the list. I'm from Ames (originally from Wright County). Sure would like to get some snow soon. I used to race snocross for about 5 years and I wouldn't mind catching one or two local races this winter. Does anyone know of any snocross races within Iowa or close to? At anyrate, keep me in the loop for whenever someone decides to get a ride together, perhaps a poker run somewhere.

your in Ames huh. Guessing your going to State. I used to go to school down there and had a sled there for the last three winters, usually just brought a beater I didn't care if it got stolen or messed with. Gotta watch it down there. It's some fun riding if you like wide open trails accross fields but thats about all it is. One tip is to wait until they plow highway 30 then go out and hit the median just watch for sleds coming the other way!
