I am so sorry I haven't answered your question. Been in the hospital for a while. T he chip is the same one that you hear of that is put in the diesel trucks. About all I can tell you is your truck/car needs to be new enough to have a computer. The plug in for my Zr2 is just under the dash, drivers side. There are different grades you can buy. Wont help ya if you get the top rated one if you don't have a cam and all the goodies to make it work. Just the average off the lot truck can produce about 5to7 horse more than stock. I can program different shift points with the one I use. I can tune and detune the computer to allow low grade fuel and go up to useing a jet fuel mix. With my ZR2 detuned and running on low grade fuel I can get almost 26 mpg if you can believe that. When I program for hi pro and change shift points I pull maybe 4or5 mpg. You need to be careful if your truck is still under warenty because if they see the program most will void it out. I can program mine back to stock and remove the chip when I take it in for any work. With the work done to my ZR2 and the program set to max, I can produce about 11% more horse to the rear tires. Just look up preformance chips on the web and type in your truck details, and you will see what is available for you. Hope this explains a little. There are some real gas engine guru types on this site that can explain alot more than I just tried to do, and they will spell a whole lot better than I do. LOL.
My Best, Jess

I found this on the program mod. Think it will help.
Description:
Want to boost your ride’s horsepower but don’t want to crawl under the hood to do it? Hypertech's Power Programmer III makes it easy: Just plug this self-contained automotive tuning computer into the under-dash diagnostic plug, answer a series of yes/no questions, and the Hypertech Power Programmer III goes to work.
The Hypertech Power Programmer III instantly recognizes your vehicle's power train by reading your VIN for specific information on the engine, transmission and drivetrain. You can even tell Hypertech Power Programmer III to tune your vehicle for optimal performance with regular 87-octane or premium 93-octane gasoline, and aftermarket components such as non-stock tire sizes and rear-end gear ratios.
Features:
Custom-made to optimally tune selected Cars, Trucks and SUVs
Tunes the engine for maximum power and performance, plus potential gas mileage improvements
Hypertech Power Programmer III automatically installs its program and allows you to access and reprogram the vehicle's computer to function properly
Lets you choose optimized tuning for 87 octane or 93 octane fuel
Extends the engine's RPM range for a wider power band
Permits use of low-temperature thermostat for cooler, denser intake charge and lower engine operating temperature
Optimizes shift points by speed and RPM for maximum acceleration
Hypertech Power Programmer III requires no tools, or any knowledge of cars or computers
Return to OEM (stock) programming in just minutes
Your Hypertech Power Programmer comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee and lifetime warranty
