What is the reason for this notice?
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Arctic Cat is voluntarily recalling 78,872
snowmobiles equipped with Steering Shaft (p/n 0705-397).
What is the problem?
The steering shaft on the affected models may not be adequately welded to the steering arm shaft. If this
condition exists, the steering shaft may come loose from the steering shaft arm resulting in a loss of
steering control.
Stop Sale Immediately of all 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 snowmobiles indicated in the affected model
list above.
What should you do?
Update all affected snowmobiles still at your dealership. All registered owners of affected snowmobiles
will be sent a letter concerning this Product Safety Recall Bulletin (letter enclosed). If a customer contacts
you concerning this issue, please assist them in completing the necessary update.
Ordering Parts:
Order an appropriate number of Steering Shaft Reinforcement Assembly Kits (p/n 1705-200) through
normal parts-ordering channels. Your dealership Parts Account will be billed and then credited upon
receipt of a Warranty Claim Request form.
Warranty:
A labor allowance of 0.2 hr will be paid per affected snowmobile.
! WARNING
Do not operate or permit anyone to operate a snowmobile until the steering shaft has been updated. Severe personal
injury may result if the steering shaft comes loose and loss of control occurs.

If it's not within the VIN series, I assume not.

Check the last 6 digits in yur VIN#. If they aren't within those series VINs, then you should be ok. If you don't trust yurself, call the dealers

If I am not a registered owner will they still change the part on my sled? I have a couple buddies that work at the Arctic Cat dealer. I think I will just ask them or take it in.

Go to the link in the sticky, & print the letter. make sure yours is included in the recall. Take that letter to your dealer or call him with the recall # (he can look it up if he's not aware of it) & tell him you need this done to your sled. It doesn't matter who the registered owner is, AC is only concerned in capturing all the units involved. Dealer may have to order the part before you drop your sled off. Good luck!!

The actual fix takes less than 15 minutes to install.....usually they don't even take it off the trailer. It's not like going to ride in the next 2 weeks or so! Make sure they check the fuel tank while it's there!!

Which dealer??

Keep mine "Up North" at the cottage in Indian River. Dealer there is Rental Express. They're a smaller dealership & I have gotten to know most of the guys there by name.....makes it nice when you need their help!!

We bought about 10-12 years ago & have enjoyed it immensely!! We're very close to Burt Lake which is connected to several other lakes (Google "Inland Water Route") Fishweb.com also has great coverage of the area. It is truly a year round destination since we got heavy into snowmobiles. There is a lot of property for sale right now, so if you are one of the lucky ones that have the resources to be a buyer, now is the time!! There is a lot of local realty listings at www.straitslandresorter.com
