Arctic Cat Recal

I found this on a pretty credible web page.

Just passing the info along, dont know if you're affected or not.

General Discussions: Miscellaneous : Arctic Cat recalls 52,000 snowmobiles

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. — Arctic Cat Inc. has recalled 52,000 snowmobiles due to faulty fuel tanks that could crack and leak.
No injuries from the defects have been reported, but the company sent a letter to owners this week warning them to immediately stop using the snowmobiles.

Arctic Cat notified the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that it had received 217 warranty claims for fuel leak problems because of cracks in the filler neck or leaks at the fuel outlet fitting.

Company spokesman John Tranby said problems with materials and processes are suspected, and the tanks are being replaced with thicker models.

The recall affects all 2004, 2005 and 2006 Firecat and Sabercat models, as well as 2003 Firecat carbureted models. The snowmobiles, which cost $6,500 to $8,500, were sold at dealerships nationwide between May 2002 and April 2006.

The recalled machines represent two of Arctic Cat's 13 snowmobile models.

Customers with affected models should contact their Arctic Cat dealer to schedule a free repair, which Tranby said usually can be done in a couple of hours.

Owners with questions should contact Arctic Cat at 1-800-279-6851, or the Consumer Product Safety Commission at 1-800-638-2772

Thanks for passing that along, PI500. Looks like it may affect my F5 (carburated), but not sure of my F7 EFI. I'll need to check into it!

52,000? Can a snowmobile company handle a recall that size? Good thing they got into the quad biz to make some more $$$

Get with your dealer & insist it be replaced before you become a human bonfire!! Don't think they would deny you!! Also check HCS Firecat forum....lot's of testimonials there about cracked tanks.

same recall Polaris had right? Do they manufacture thier own tanks or do they all get them from the same place? I had to have an insert put into the filler neck of my tank due to the recall.

Wink

Per my dealer, this moring, cracked tanks will be replaced... those that are not cracked will have a insert installed to "prevent cracking", both at no charge. This begged for the question "What if a "insert repaired" tank cracks, next season. Answer..."dunno". My 05 Sabercat is not cracked, but I'm sure it will be, before I bring it, in the fall.

there is no pad seperating the tank and the tunnel, after a while it must rub through.

this really comes as a suprise to me b/c I have not heard about this happening.

guy up the road had a brand new sled... not even double digit miles...cracked and spilled a tankfull on the ground at the beginning of the seaons...he was a little upset. They ended up putting on another tank and a sleeve into the neck to fix the problem.

You'll need to call your own dealer to find out!! If you have a unit that is specified in the recall, let him know & arranged for a date to get it fixed. He may need to order the parts, so get with him soon!!

BTW - Welcome to SF.com!!
