So it looks like I'm getting a...
Cavalier/Sunfire....
Basically have it narrowed down to two cars
99 Sunfire GT, 2-door 5-speed, 100,000km - $5500
02 Cavalier, 2-door 5-speed, 30,000km - $10000
the Cavy is my brother's car, but he's not sure he wants to sell....so I may be buying the sunfire within a day or two...
oh...and try $6000 a year for insurance

What? $6000 ? Is that Canadian or something? I hardly pay close to that and I have a Dodge Ram pickup truck. That seems ridiculous. If that is what insurance costs I'd also say just buy the better car (Cavalier). My girlfriend has a cavalier and I think its a good, solid car. My other friend has a Sunfire... and I happen to think that they are a piece. I'd much rather have a Cavy then a sunfire. IMO
I'd think hard before you get the sunfire... cause I don't think they are quality vehicles.

god i love living in saskatchewan!!!, thats ridiculous, i have a 94 ford 1/2 ton with 4x4, ext cab and i only pay 800$ a year, alberta is the same too, they consider the sunfire a sports car and its has frontwheel drive so that drives the price up, like wow. I could pay less but i wanted to buy up my liabilty to 1 mil.$. Thats why im never leaving here, saskatchewan might have pst and not as booming as an economy, but theres tons of work and cost of living is cheaper than alberta, where almost absolutely everyone is going!

just dont dont put wings or body kits on those cars. the cavalier is a nice car, but it doesnt deserve to be a "race car". id go with that, not the sunfire.
what happend to the mustang? better than those two cars... let me guess? couldnt find a good deal on a stang?

So what if hes sixteen, nothing wrong with owning a mustang, i just graduated and theres tons of people in my class that own, i mean some were bought by their parents but a close friend has a 94 stang with the 5.0L with 180k and he only paid under 8g's. The only thing stoppping most teens from having sweet cars is insurance. Saskatchewan has to be the best for that, its nice and cheap, more often than not its under 1000 a year, unless yu ahve a terrible driving record.

dak your absolutely right...if your parents have half a brain they will tell you (if they are buying you your car) to get a reasonable car for your first one. every kid out there driving, drives like an idiot. i am not saying that im the best driver, or the most curtious, mind you im not a teen either...but there is no reason to get a 'stang for your first car (im taking about a V8 GT, the v6 i could care less about). reaon being, you will get a speeding ticket, and draw unwanted attention to yourself. plus the chances of you getting into an accident when you first start driving is higher than when you are a mature adult. that is the reason why insurance rates are higher for teens. because they are more apt to get into an accident and have tickets. i
mean, magoo im not trying to rip on ya and i wasnt starting an argument. i could care less about what kind of car you get, i just thought it was funny how you were all hell bent on getting the 'stang and then you post about getting the cavy or sunfire.

I'm 17 guys....better change that
Bought a car...1998 Pontiac Sunfire, 2-dr, 5-speed....NO OPTIONS...don't even think it has a tach....which really ticks me off....yes guys, my parents bought it for me....w/o my consent (I didn't really want this car)....I have to pay insurance....which is $5200 a year...
Car has about 110,000km...runs well....a little bit of rust on doors....paint needs some touch-up....paid 4500 for it + tax...
...not too sure what to think....I didn't really want this car...but I can't really complain, because my parents bought it....but a tach was almost a necessity....I mean....this is my first time actually driving a stick car...
anywhos....I'm picking it up tomorrow....I'll get some pics for y'all probably on monday
I WISH I could get a 95 GT for 8K....they're all 10-11K around here....
Damn...Toronto sucks

congrats on the new car....i can remeber my first car. it was a 91 mercury cougar, 3.8 v6, electric red. i loved that car, when i gave it to my brother for his first car, he totalled it like 6 months later. IT WASNT MY BROTHERS FAULT...ironically a kids dad who we both played football with hit my bro, as the dad was pulling out of einstein bagles onto a major road in town.... he t-boned my bro as he was pulling out, my bro spun around and hit a full sized van head on. luckily my bro and the passenger (my buddies brother) in my bros car were not injured.
anywho, having a tach with a stick really isnt necessary. once you learn where the car shifts and how it drives, and how fast you can go in each gear, you dont even need to look at the speedo and tach. you will know how fast your going when your in each gear prety much.
i have a stick in my truck, and i love it. its so much fun to drive. my first car, the cougar, was auto. for now i dont think ill go back to auto, but when im a geezer, ill prolly want something easier to drive

uh, indy, i was never hell bent on gettin a stang. you mean g-force right?
yeah, to shift without a tach, just go by the engine noise. i know in my bro's talon, i can even tell when to shift. of course, i dont drive it but when im in it, its obvious.
i picked up an auto mart (car sales mag) to see what i could get for around 5 grand. just to give me an idea of what ill be drivin, and found a couple cars id like. (rather would have the supra twin turbo in there, but it was a bit much.)
