Question It's been a while...

Hey guys!! Yes, yes, it's been a while since I've either posted or been on a sled, but I thought it might be about time to change at least one of those things.

For those of you I kind of kept in contact with when I was more active on here, you might remember I was in law school. Well, I'm (FINALLY) in the homestretch - only 243 days until graduation. No no, I'm not counting.

In any case, one of my Professors presented me with a pretty interesting opportunity this afternoon, and I think I'm going to throw my hat in to the ring for it. Basically, I'd be clerking for a judge in Anchorage, AK doing a lot of review of administrative law and felony criminal cases (my goal is to one day be a state or federal prosecutor, but I have to start somewhere).

Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you from Alaska had any advice to offer as far as moving up there - what's day-to-day life like, what's the cost of living like - just kind of general stuff.

Thanks in advance!!
~Danielle

I'm on the East Coast, so I can't help you. Good luck and do it. My niece did the same thing in DC.

If you see Sarah Palin up there say hi for me.

We missed you and don't forget about us when you're a big time prosecutor!!!

Cost of living is definitely higher. My sis and her hubby moved to McGrath, AK and spent a year there, then moved to Anchorage. McGrath was OMG expensive (it's in the bush). Anchorage is somewhat cheaper, but still more expensive than the mainland. When you think about it, it only makes sense that the price of most goods is higher, it's a LONG way to Alaska from anywhere!

I also have a cousin that has been up there for 30 years, he likes it up there just fine. You get used to where ever you are, I think...

I thought about moving up there and working as well... I can make 6 figures. That ought to buy me a decent sled. Since it's been years since your last post, you'll have to update your picture!

I won't be making 6 figures, but it'll be a great experience. I figure I should go for it now before I've settled in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

And I don't have any recent snowmobiling pics...

I think that if you move up here, you won't want to go back.

I can't tell you what it is like up here because I do not know any other way, so all I could say is 'normal'.

I think it is interesting that a lot of people have seen the small town I live in on national news (40 mile drive from Anchorage)...

Although I am from Minnesota originally (Hibbing), I only lived there for 9 months before moving to Alaska, so I couldn't tell you the best way to move up here.

My friend's brother is the mayor of Nenanah, Ak. That's in the sticks! I've been to Anchorage, beautiful place. Go for it, it might be an opportunity you'll regret saying no to down the road as you get older.
