Running out of gas...

i had a doctor appointment in the detroit area the other day, and i left big rapids with a full tank. when i got home i did my stuff and what not, but decided not to fill up on gas. i had about 5/8 of a tank of gas. so i figured it would be sufficient. it usually takes about 1/2 a tank to go from big rapids to home (210 miles or about 3 hrs driving). so when i left to go back to school it was about 9 at night.

i got withen 15 miles from school and it was about 12 midnight. and most gas stations off the freeway are closed. so i had to get to the exit for school where i was gonna get gas. i started to sweat bullets b/c i was lookin at my gas and it was reading E. i was watching the mile markiers b/c i was gonna 2 way my buddy to come get me or bring me some gas, if i had run out...

well i made it to the gas station w/o running out of gas..and when i was done filling up, it said 19.9 gallons of gas...my tank only holds 20!!!

long story short...make sure you fill up on gas, and dont try to push your luck...hahaha

if it's a truck, that's why you always have a '95 formula S 380, also known as the tanker.it always has gas.

Thumbs up Close One

Lol, thats funny as he!!. I recently pulled one of those at moosehead, rode the Ski doo Mini Z to the store a couple miles away just for kicks. Had a buddy behind me on the 440 jsut in case. It was wicked funny, 155 pound kid, trucking that thing at a blazing 10 mph down the road. I rolled into the gas station on E. Good times good times.

Heh, this just brings up a thing.

We were at a resturaunt about 100 miles outside of Big Bay, there was this gas station about 1/3 up the road. Well, my dad and his friend zipped up there about 100mph, filled up. I said "yeah, I'm good on gas." me being naive and all, I flagged down everyone about 15 miles back on the trail, telling everyone to turn around. My gas meter told me I was almost on E. I made it to the gas station, and ran out of gas about 10 feet away from the pump, close call. We had no gas tanks with us. That would've been horrible!

runnin out of gas in a car/truck is one thing...but on a sled...geeeze. i mean you could be in the middle of no-where and have to walk a million or so miles to the nearest gas station...where as in a truck, a call from the celly can solve ur prob really quick

whenever i go, we always stop at the gas station in every town/village/city...that way we know whe have enough gas...i have never run out on the trail, and dont plan on it

Gas tanks? I've seen a lot of tool-kit lists, but never seen a siphon on any of them! Why not? That's one of the first things I went out and bought. Got a nice little gas bulb (like used on boats to prime them). The cheapo ones in auto stores aren't worth the cardboard they're stuck to. If I ever run too low on petrol - or if I come across someone who needs some, I can always move a couple gallons from one sled to another. Seems like something all sled tool kits should include...

Anybody agree???

Yeah, that's one thing I have never even thought of until a friend mentioned other friends carrying a siphon. Good thing to have.

We usualy carry one, but I wasn't paying attention, and we were sure we'd make it (or close) to the gas station, so we all topped off there.

Question

Must be a small truck, my Chevy has a 39 Gallon tank, at $2.09 a gallon here you dont want to be there when I fill it up. You should see the way they look at me when I have to hand them $80! But I like my truck, always need one! Always carry a fuel injector bottle with you.. it has 16 more ouunces of gas for "that extra" oyu need.
BTW -when I first read your thread.. I thought you said you have a 20 gallon tank in your sled.. I was like WTF!! lol.
Also -- I wonder if the cash register was looking out the window when you took a picture of the gas filler... HMMM

doing the math... 8x 20 is 160.. damn.. I can go close to 450 before filling up my Chevy! Nice truck, like stepside, but Chevy Better
Should have gone with the dual gas tank on that one. I get about 10 with the 350, Fords always like to drink gas.

its only a 302
cant get duals with the stepsides
but 33"s, 3:55 gears and one lead foot leads to bad milage. guess its the bad side of owning a truck

Yes tired make a difference, Big tires for a 302. Stock? I just thought of that, not dual for stepside.. should mount one in the box then! lol Can't take much of a trip with only 160 miles a tank man. Do alot of offroad with that? Have pics?

I had a 1989 Toyota 2.4L that I lifted and put 33's on.. left the motor stock. It went from getting 16 mpg to 7. lol Ya.. it makes a difference.. going up hill had to shift from 5th to 2nd in about 20 seconds, it was like a VW Bus!
