i heard about it this morning, and checked the news...

Google Earth Uncovers Swastika-Shaped Government Building - Switched: Gadgets, Tech, Digital Stuff for the Rest of Us

how can this be considered an "oversight" when it was under construction

now they're going to spend $600K to camoflogue (sp) it from aerial views...

"The buildings were built in the 1960s but, according to the Navy, their sinister configuration wasn't discovered until the construction project had already broken ground -- which was apparently too late to do the decent thing and modify the designs a bit. But that's beside the point, anyway. Are we to believe that not a single person involved in a construction project for the U.S. Navy ever looked at a set of blueprints? Is it also just a coincidence that the buildings sit at the intersection of Tulagi and Bougainville -- two streets named after famous WWII battles?"

to google map it yourself, i just typed in "Bougainville road and Eniwetok road, Coronado, California" and found it...kinda hard to miss...

If you look closely, you will see that the arms are not connected at the center.

Offensive to who? Do you know that the Indians (from India) have a religious symbol that takes the same as the Swastika but it's at a 45 degree tilt.

well instead of spending 600,000 to make it look something else they should tell google all government buildings are a matter of national security and please remove them from your search.

The Swastika IS the Indian religious symbol. It just stands for good luck. The only reason the swastika is now "bad" is because of its use by Nazi's. Imagine if some terrorists used the symbol of a can of soda as their flag. Would Pepsi and Coke have to change their can shape to keep from "offending" people?

That's just such a waste of money.

well, its only a problem now because someone made it an issue...and now the media has a hold of it...so the only response the gov't has is to "modify" it.

either way, i think the design should have been modified, but then again, as a builder, you build whats on the drawings.
