Accident / leaving the scene
on my way to work this morning less than 2 blocks from work, i was hit by some lady who pulled out, to turn, without looking...to make matters worse, she left the scene of the accident before i could:
a) call the cops; and
b) get her license plate number
i was headed east, and she was headed south (but she was stopped at the stop sign). i was turning left, to head north on the road she was going south on. half way through my turn, she started to turn left and hit my truck along the drivers side bed.
i completed my turn (after my rear end skipped out, fish tail-like), she stopped (after hitting me), then proceeded to complete her turn. i got out to survey the damage, and no sooner than i look at her (shes parked across the road), she takes off. i didnt even have time to look at her license plate.
to make a loooong story short..i call 911 to report...911 says to call chi-town police...i call chi-town 5-0, they say to wait and a cop is on its way..i wait 30min meanwhile 2 cops drive by, but dont stop...i call again, they suggest i drive to the poilce station to report...i pull into the parking lot at work and see a cop at an adjacent corner...i describe the situation, and she says she didnt have time to report, and i need to go to the station...i get pi$$ed that she DOESNT HAVE TIME, and i leave...i go at lunch to the station, and file the report...
pic was taken from camera phone...sorry for clarity

At least you have the evidence (pic). If you know the make and model of the other car, it can be traced.

but the likely hood of it being traced is slim to none..imo
well, my brother has a good suggestion...since people are creatures of habbit...he suggested i camp out at the corner tomorrow morning for 10 or 15 minutes and see if she drives by. if she does, snap a pic of her bumper, and plate, and head back to the cops...
the vehicle was a rav4, and green with grey trim in color...plus a little red on the bumper.

true, but in the city of chicago, with all the different streets, its like finding a needle in a hay stack...
...i took my bros suggestion this morning and parked along the street where the accident took place. i was there for about 30 minutes (15min before accident time, 15 min after), but no luck.

Did you contact some of the businesses around that area and see if they have cameras outside at all? Theres cameras practically everywhere in big cities. Good luck to ya, that really sucks.

actually, its funny you mention this...i did look, but there arent any that are close enough to get a plate or identify the vehicle. the one vid cam i did see was on the corner of a 6 story buidling 1 block away. i noticed this two days after the accident while walking to get some lunch. i didnt bother going in and seeing if they caught it on film.
our company has a vid camera that is pointed on the parking lot, ironically its at the other end, not the same side where she creamated my truck. so it would have been on camera, but once again, to small to make anything out. plus 2 blocks away

yeah, i know...i would have given my right nut to of gotten some form of id from her.
to add insult to injury, ive only got liability on that truck. for the most part, i dont drive either truck much (i take the train to work when working in the city). and when i do drive, its not very far. although when im at the jobsite i do drive my ranger 95% of the time (5% F-150).
so basically im left with a big mess and no way to fix it besides out of my own pocket. as i told my brother, i should go hillbilly and build a wooden bed...that would look sweet
