from what I can see it is primarly a forum toy. Go to the eStore menu on the right side of the page and look at what you can do in there.

Snowrida's a pinch away from being the forums first millionaire!

Points really aren't useful in any way except to change your screen name colors and give gifts to other members and little things like that. Just an unimportant but fun aspect of the forum.
