speeding tickets (cars)

Typically what does it bump your insurance, also - how long does it stay on your record (in mn)?

I disagree with my reading of going 87, no way in hell i was doing faster than 82-83. I would have shown him my avg speed on the GPS unit to argue, but the "Max Speed" has my proud 99.8 mph (which was when it was raining so i was too chicken to break 100).

My dumbass fault for speeding with no one behind me following close (so cop could dart out right behind me)

Also - next question is, what is the best radar detector out there? Theyre illegal in mn, but so is drinking and driving - which everyone seems to do anyway. Unlike 99.5% of the state, i dont drink, so i figure i get a few credits to use up on some petty crimes.

You'll never win the "I wasn't going that fast" argument in court. I've NEVER seen anyone beat a radar reading. Your best bet is to just go to court and see if they can place it on file pending good behavior. Radar detectors are pretty much useless nowadays, because radar units are off until they switch them on to gun you, by then it's too late.

You say when you speed you keep someone behind you?

I've always been a believer in keeping somone just in view, far far in front of me. Somone that you know is speeding like a MF. Then if you see any bacon swing out, stand on the brakes.

I also have a 14 Band Radar / Laser detechtor which was like 150 bucks... but I still really don't trust it.

That's my practice as well!!
But, geez, ncorrieri, you were due to get busted if that's your usual M.O.!! You can sorta' rationalize it by thinking of all the times you DIDN'T get busted!!
When driving alone or leading a pack, I use the 10% rule & so far, it has worked OK.

If they're illegal in MN, I'm going to guess it'll end up biting you like it does in WI: If you get caught for speeding and have to go in to court again, and the judge sees that you had a radar detector in your car, you're not getting any breaks. On the other hand, if you're caught speeding & don't have one, the judge may be a little more willing to give you a break (dropping a couple of points or reducing the fine).

Just my observation...

I recently got rid of my radar detector. I was on my way up to Ferris State University, doing about 80 and I see a blue car off in the median. My radar detector just sat there like nothing even happened. Luckily I didn't get a ticket, but regardless, I don't need another ticket so I've slowed down and thrown out the radar detector. One thing that bugs me is people that complain about getting tickets. There's really no excuse for a ticket, so why complain about it? You know you were in the wrong so I don't see any reason to complain. 99% of the time when you see those lights, you know what you did. That's about all I've got to say. So what kinda tickets does everyone have? I have a 15 over, which I'm not extremely proud of.

If they're illegal to have,a break is out of the question. It would make sense to me you would have to pay a fine for that too, don't ya think???

I'm sure you know this... but

Radar detectors can only do so much. They aren't sensitive to blue cars with red lights on top. (But that would be cool ) They are sensitive to the actual radar, which of course has to be running. Alot of the time especially when you see the bacon driving down the road, they aren't running their radar, cause they've got places to be, and don't want to be bothered pulling people over. Not all cops are *******s. Most of the time they'll just tap their brakes at you...

i have a radar detector, its basically useless, in some rare instances it gives you a little warning, but not too often. i have lots of speeding tickets, mostly because i speed all the time, have had high insurance for years, dont see a break in sight, so i just keep paying the fines and get where i gotta go.

REMEMBER...... nothin money cant fix

everyone knows me to be a speed-demon. Most people think I'm driving with a revoked liscense becuase every time they see me I'm flying by them. But I've never once had a speeding ticket. The trick is learning where you can speed and knowing where you SHOULDN'T speed.
When I was in Oregon running on I-5 a lot it was easy, you just slow back down for on/off ramps and any other spots that look like someplace you would sit if you were a cop. Although if I had gotten pulled over for a few miles over the limit going by an onramp, it would have been hard to explain why the mirrors were folded against the truck..(wind resistance would fold them in as soon as I got over 95)
Up here it's not as easy but I know all the usual spots they like to sit and when you do get pulled act like you're happy that the officer is doing his job and neither upset nor excited that you got pulled. (and if my hat's backwards I always turn it front-wards and sit up so I don't look like a thug) seems to help.

I have a radar detector but they are legal here trick is to use it on busy highways were the cops don't have a choice but to leave their radar on. Of course some will just turn it on when they see a car dusting by all the others but i still say it helps at times. It only has to save one ticket around here to pay for itself

Exactly what I was thinking too, but it's been 3 years since I bought mine. Maybe that's why it never goes off. It used to go off all the time. I should probably invest in a new one.
