Well, the crf250x, bound to be a great bike, is said to be coming out feb '04, for 5800 i think. That is a tad bit pricey, unless you got that much your willing to spend on a bike. The crf450r i've heard is a good bike in the woods, maybe go up a few teeth on rear sprocket though, and an excellent bike on the track. You can find some pretty good deals on some '02's or '03's that are in good condition. If you like 2strokes, the kdx200's and 220's are great trail bikes, with good power. You should list more info about your riding style and stuff. I think a xr650 is just way to big for the woods, hard as heck to make tight turns and stuff, its more of a dessert bike. The crf450r is a great all around bike though. Goto www.dirtrider.net for some great forums, the people there are nice and will help you if you pose a serious question, like if your asking about a new trail bike, say what type of riding you do, your skill level, weight, budget, etc.
good luck
jim

depending on the type of riding you do, i would get a ktm. they are definately the best woods bike you can get. and if u like to do motocross, u can race them in that too. i have a 2004 ktm 200 exc and i love it. i can do pretty good on a mx track with it because it has good power and has high performance suspension unlike the kdx's. kdx is a thing of the past ktm came into the picture and now they are the only way to go.

The Suzuki DRZ's are great trail bikes or if you want more grunt go with the Yamaha WR450F. Both are GREAT trail bikes and they both have electric start.

I had a 84 xr350r and it flew for a 4-stroke. Placed 15th out of over 250 riders in district 15and 16 on it. Made me run in the 250cc 2stroke class but after the first 100 yards to the first turn i was in 5th out of 50 riders, top four were xr 650s and ktms... Sucked i wanted to race in the novice class considering all i did was farm and make my own trail riding but in the practice and time trails put me in C class right off the bat. 2stroke is great but 4 just pulls up the hills in any gear without the sudden powerband flip-you-over thing.

i ride trails and hit the small jumps that are on them no motocross although it looks fun... i would love a 2 stroke for the trails but too much money with the rebuilding and all that... but im lookin for a good four stroke that will rip!! like the CRF250X but that wont be until i outgrow my 02 XR200 or the yz250f thats pretty sick but its gotta be wrenched on just like a 2 stroke does
