Pulling teeth
i have to go have my wisdom teeth removed next friday, the 19th. i had been trying to put it off as long as possible, but one of them started to hurt so i had to make the appointment. my dentist(my uncle) says it generally takes about 45min to get all 4, but i'm still kind of nervous about it. he's not pulling them, a different oral surgeon is.
anyone here have this done?

ive had it done...and eveyone may have different experiences...but mine was alright.
had all the wisdom teeth removed. the only thing that you need to watch out for is dry socket...then **** gets all messed up.
doc put me under, pulled my teeth, and i went home the same day. mouth was numb for like 3 hrs after the surgery. doc said to keep ice on your face to keep the swelling down, and take tylenol regularily as directed untill the pain goes away. plus he gave me an antiboitic, and something like scope where you swish it in your mouth to clean it out.
ate really soft foods the first day or two...nothing to serious.
one thing i had to do was re gauze my mouth b/c it was bleeding from the teeth being removed, plus i had stiches in my back lower due to the teeth being hard to remove.
other than that, it was a good experience. i was in college when i had mine done...came home on a thrusday, had it done on friday (no classes that day)...rested all friday, and the weekend, and i think i took monday off too. swelling went down after the second day or so...and i was ready for classes when i got back to school.
my only suggestion is to ice it like the doc says, to keep swelling down for the first 24 hrs or so...and to take the meds as directed, cuz you need to have it in your system inorder for them to work...so taking them whenever has somewhat of an adverse effect on trying to fight infection, and keep the pain down.

I got mine done not to long ago. Are they going to freeze your mouth or put you under?
I went under and woke up feeling messed, I was in such an unconfortable position but I couldn't roll over. I lost feeling of my left leg lol .
The first day I just watched TV and slept all day. After that it was fine, I love chicken soup. The stiches were kind of annoying at the end when the gums didn't fully heal to the teeth yet and food sometimes got stuck there.
It wasn't anything that bad. If your that commited you could go to a party the day off, one guy I know did. Didn't talk much though, don't blame him.

I had mine done way back when!! I remember vividly because I no sooner got back from the Dr's & my buddy calls to tell me he bought a car I was looking for......that's the day I bought my '73 454 Corvette!! I remember looking at it & spitting out blood the whole time! Yech!!
IRS Jr just had his done on April 1. Very similar experience as PI500 descibed above.

thanks, i'm not quite as worried now as i was.
i havn't decided whether to go under or the gas yet.
i don't think i will need stitches beacuse they have almost all started to come through, all 4 are coming out.
my dad had all 4 come in perfectly, so he's not a whole lot of help right now.
a friend from the baseball team just had his out last month, he pretty much said the same as PI500.

oh heh, 19th is the next stage with my dentist too. braces. then after after a year with those, they break my jaw and add in bone to push it forward a bit i guess.

yeah, it should. he said it was pretty routine. ewll, after the 19th we meet with the surgeon and he tells us more about what will happen and how much itll cost. brother said he'd do it for free, but then my teeth wouldnt be straight and i'd be back to square one
come to think of it, i never had my wisdom teeth pulled...that can wait.
and out of true dedication to the sport, my dad asks me "ok, perfect smile or new snowmobile?" my answer-- "i can eat fine."

i had a similar experience before i had braces...
my pallet (the roof of my mouth) wasnt wide enough, so my upper jaw/teeth werent far enough out...prolly only like a few mm or cm or something
anyway, i had to wear a palletal (sp) expander, where every day you insert a key, and turn the expander a few turns...then one day we heard a pop, it didnt hurt cuz it was a gradual thing, and then i was ready for braces shortly there after.

My family is lucky. No one has had to have em pulled. I'm glad too, I don't mind the dentist, but I HATE being put under. I did however have two baby teeth pulled because the adult teeth were gonna come out wrong or something like that. It wasn't that bad at all, more annoying then anything. (always spitting blood, and my parents made me go to school for the rest of that day )
