Car problem

So my buick has been making a weird noise since I left it alone for the weekend with my brother. It makes a rythmic squeking ussually when taking a hard turn at speeds 15-40 or so. I've smelt around the car for odd smells but nothing really. The squeak sounds like its coming somewhere from the center rear axle.

I've been reading and wheel bearings seem like the best shot right now.

Sounds like a dry CV (constant velocity) joint in one of the 1/2 shafts. Look for a torn/damaged boot where all of the grease has leaked out.

what kind and year Buick? Most Buicks are front wheel drive and that would cancel out the CV boot.

Only things that squesk in the rear axle stubs are bearings or brakes....

oh hey do you have an oil leak around the heads too? i did but it kinda...stopped. ah, and my fuel pump may be about to go and my a/c isnt working. in fact, i have heat all the time. what a fun day it is when i have a good long drive in 75 degree weather!

With the wheel off the ground, put one hand on the top of the tire, and one hand on the bottom. Pull towards you with one hand, and way from you with the other. Do this and wiggle it. Be pretty rough. Shouldn't be to much play. If there is, bearings.

well you dont have a rear end in that car so it will have to be a bearing or poss the brakes. I agree with jacking up the rear end and spinning the wheels and trying to move the wheel back and forth.

I'm gonna lean toward the bearings. You say it does it goin around corners. The slop is causing the wheel to tip slightly, and the pads are rubbing on the rotors. I'm assuming it has rear disc brakes, and independent rear suspension

i had a park avenue 1992 supercharged, it's about the same platform if not exactly the same... wheel bearings are easy to diagnose... you get to like 55 MPH on a highway and sway the car slowly so the weight goes from one side to the other, like changing lanes verrry slowly.. then if you turn left ( making the weight less on the left side) and it humms more then just going straight then it's the left side that has the problem.. less weight on a worn wheel bearing will make it humm more..

as for the bearing themselve, i can say that after changing all 4 at 160$ rear 200$/ front each there are a pain to change and cost a house..

loved the car but hated the bad fuel mileage.. even more since i HAD to put premium all the time coze of the supercharger.... otherwise it would run REAL bad and detonation was present in everytime i would step more than 25% throttle..

The rear are drum brakes, and theyre warped; thanks again to my dumbass brother.

The sound isn't continous on one condition. At first it was just when applying the brakes, then it was while turning corners, now its back to when applying light brakes. It won't get fixed until next week or so since my folks are out of the country but if I find its the bearings I might stop driving it.

dont stop driving it.. noisy bearings can go on for a long time..

they get ALOT noiser and rumble when there game over.. and by the time you reach that point you'll see what i mean..

it takes ALOT of time...

another way to check it is geting the car on a lift and spining the wheel by hand fast and listening.. if there bad, the wheel will humm a little... and you can touch the coiul spring too.. thats the REAL way to be sur.. it will vibrate funny. compare to other wheels and see.
