Theres never been a better time to be in favor of the death penalty.
Ontario police officer shot by two teens ( err adults, youngest was 18 )
Updated Fri. May. 5 2006 5:14 PM ET
CTV.ca News Staff
A police officer in Windsor, Ont. was shot by two teens, and unconfirmed reports say he died as a result of his injuries on Friday afternoon.
"An officer has been shot outside the Mac's Milk convenience store at the corner of Seminole (Street) and Pillette (Road) in downtown Windsor," CHYR radio reporter Jamie Tawil told CTV Newsnet Friday.
The shooting reportedly occurred just after 2 p.m. but what sparked the gunfire is not known.
"The body is there covered by a blanket, although police won't officially tell us that the officer has died," AM 800 reporter Patty Handysides told CTV Newsnet.
Two suspects, one in his 20s and another believed to be 18, are reportedly in custody as a result of a massive police search.
Unconfirmed reports say police are searching for a third suspect using an RCMP helicopter and police canine units in an area of the city that has many vacant warehouses.
"It's a massive search right now," Tawil said.
At least eight elementary schools and one high school in the area were locked down, keeping as many as 3,400 students indoors. A nearby daycare centre was also under lockdown.
Doug Fox of the Greater Essex County District School Board said all the students were safe, but were being held until police gave the all clear or parents arrived to pick them up.
"We don't want them to be anywhere near a place where they could be in danger," Fox said.
Nearby residents were also advised to remain in their homes.
Windsor police are refusing to comment on the incident and further details are not immediately available.
Lloyd Menard was in the store at the time of the shooting. He says at first people didn't believe it was real. But he says his truck was covered in blood.
"At first, a couple of people thought they were just like poppers on the ground, but no, it was actually gunfire. My truck's got blood all over it, so those kids must have shot him right there."
An employee of the convenience store, identified as Emma, says she saw two young men in the parking lot when suddenly she heard shots.
"We heard gunshots and a guy was bleeding from his mouth and then we were told he was a policeman," she said.
As news of the shooting circulates around the southwestern Ontario city, people in the community are shocked.
"The whole city is ... very alarmed right now," Handysides said.
"This is very rare, indeed, for Windsor. Even though we are right across the river from Detroit, gun crime is low in Windsor and certainly death by gun is very, very rare," she told CTV's Newsnet Friday afternoon.
The owner of the convenience declined comment on the shooting, saying she feared for her life.
Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis scheduled a news conference for Friday at 8 p.m. to discuss the shooting. He will be joined by Windsor Police Chief Glenn Stannard at police headquarters.

thats because of what i said here!
and just 'cause it happens every day, i hope you dont think it should be considered normal. its something that should rarely happen BUT..... it does and it is expected when you join the Police Force and God bless the men who do but by NO MEANS is a crack dealing ghetto banger worth the life of our police men.
im not trying to say one life is worth more than another but if it comes to a Cop having to shoot another guy......even if its just for his own safety he should be able to with out all the political *$#& that goes with it.

Death isn't enough. What angers me even more is that were gonna be the ones footing the bill for these wackos as they sit in jail eating big macs, watching tv, and learning new skills A 25 cent bullet to the head would save all of that.

 what does that mean?
think about it, a court case for the guys cost money, the lawyer cost money, and if he were to go to jail YOU would pay for his whole visit and then if after a trial we were lucky enough to have him given the death penalty that would cost money too.
so....i wouldnt be willing to help pay for ALL that crap but i would gladly donate 25 Cents for a bullet

well from what i heard on the news the cop was not in service... so maybe he didn't have his gun ?
either way, shooting ANYONE and taking there life is just plain f*****g wrong.. .. fry the bastards..
but canada won't so..
they'll end up in jail in a cell with a 6'5" 300lbs guy named bubba saying to them "your my little puppies now" and (((force their pants down)))
you get owed one way or another....one day.
