oil filter problems...
...no, this is nothing like lockys story...however, this one is interesting
so this past w/e i decided to change my oil in my big truck. so on sunday after work i stopped at the murrays (like usual) and picked up all the necessities
start the job, drain the oil, change the filter (upgraded to k&n from stock, as i do in all my vehicles), then came time to un do the oil filter...
nope she wouldnt come off...tried using 3 different oil filter removal tools...still wouldnt budge...so about this time it was getting dark and i decided to call it quits.
today i darted out of work early, headed to murrays to buy a different removal tool...imo the placement of the oil filter on this truck is horrible. its a pita to get at, and since i suffer from fat finger syndrome its hard to manuver in tight spaces....
so anyway, i get this other contraption, but the best i can do is dent the oil filter, and yet it still doesnt come off. after cussing and swearing for about 30 minutes, i put fresh oil in and take it to the quick lube and explain the story. the guys there thought i was a woman and just couldnt get it off...well they had to bust out some special clamping tool and remove it....needless to say this thing is mutilated...taking it to the dealer this week and im going to explain my severe dis-satisfacation...
moral of the story, every job "should" be quick and easy...except when i'm doing it..it takes 2 or 3 times as long

Next time, just don't over tighten. Make sure to put some oil on the seal too. I use this one, and have never had any problems.

It's been a problem with these filters. The guy's at work have all had the same problem on their trucks. Can't get the oil filter off. Seems they crank them on at the factory. Your story has been similar to theirs.

I put all my filters on hand tight only. If I need to remove a tight one I use channel locks. I think your problem is typical of factory installs....

The last one that I had that was that hard to remove, It got the old screwdriver through it. Came off then.

I always just do them up hand tight. The only time I haven't been able to get one off with two hands was a couple weekends ago, it was a K&N though, so I just grabbed it with a wrench

Maybe they don't put any oil on the seal before putting them on. That seems to help a lot.

Channel locks are the way to go. My expedition has the filter infront of the drivers wheel behind the bumper. It is the best design I have seen. It is sooo easy to get 2.
