Someone backed into my dads vette!

Well he was waiting in a huge line up to exit a grocery store, when an old guy in a ford focus starts backing up. My dad laid on the horn (his hand is litterally blue with bruises), yet the guy didn't hear him. My dad couldn't back up or go forwards because he was boxed in. Well the guy hit the vette, panicked, and gunned it (yes gunned it) in reverse. Came right up over the hood. For sure its gonna need a new front clip, probably drivers side fender, and maybe hood. Figure at the very least its gonna cost the old guy 5 grand, and thats if its only cosmetic. I hope they take his liscence away, accidents happen but if you can't hear someone behind you laying on the horn for a good 15 seconds, you can't possibly drive. The best part is the old guy said he didn't wanna go threw insurance, just to get some estimates. I think he literally thinks its gonna be like $500 to fix

Got any pics? That sucks. I don't like "MOST" old people on the roads. They drive slow or they are complete morons.

Its so funny when they think they'll write you a 12 dollar check for it and it'll go away. You rammed a damn vette you old fart, not to mention you paniced and made it worse by running it over.

Do you know if the guy even has insurance? That really sucks though. Did the guy not even look back before backing up or what?

Well my dad started to panic because he hasn't heard anything from the guy. So he called the guys insurance, and they said they hadn't been contacted So he called the guy personally, he said his wife had a stroke, and he was just busy with that. He still wants to just pay out of pocket. So my dads making him write a letter admiting fault, and that his intentions are to settle without insurance. That way if he doesn't pay up, he doesn't have to go through all the bs. The hood looks like it will be ok, just the clip has spider cracked, and it pushed the front into the drivers fender causing the paint to chip.

I don't think having older drivers re-take a driving test every few years would be a bad thing. Most really don't think they're a hazard on the road. I seen a couple getting out of a car the other day right in front of the shop where I work, they were less than 15ft from the front doors of the store, and it took them 8 minutes to get and and get the store doors open. 8 MINUTES to get out of the car and walk 15 feet. Then they came in a bought a chainsaw..... Ever felt like you were handing someone their death certificate? I did.....

At the very least, your Dad should have insisted on completing a police report. It would be very important to have that if he ever needs to go to court!!

i have seen that happen before and it seems that the horn doesnt help at ALL!! the person just goes and then....whammm....
one time i saw it this guy was waiting for a space in the parking lot and the woman in the space comes backing out right towards him and the guy just lays on his horn--not to mention the whole BIG *** parking lot was empty behind him-- hopefully that wasnt the case with ya dad, that would just make it all the worse

Theres gonna be no problems gettign it fixed. Now the problem is his insurance says he has to go to a plain jane shop. He wants to go to a shop that actually has touched a vette beofre without slapping bondo all over it. The old guy actually called my dads insurance company admitting fault, which they of course have taped
