Tagged a Muly this year. Twas only a spike, thought I was tagging a Doe at 275yrds. I was in it for the meat this year. He was about 95#'s field dressed. (Muly's run about 2x's the size of a whitetail) Just got the meat back last weekend. Tendor, oh so tendor, don't even need a knife. *drools* & coarse I got about 15 bags of jerky to chomp on while riding!!

A bit more of a wild taste. Not to much diferent from a young whitetail.
The wild taste comes from there source of food. I got this one out on the plains of North Dakota, so it was grazing on winter wheat, cactus, & berriers.
Hard to descibe the taste as I like sautee` and add all sorts of goodies to my food.

I didnt get anything this year but my dad got a big 8-pointer that had a bigger spread than his 10-pointer the year before(in other words, big buck). I got a nice 6-pointer last year and a another 6-pointer the year before(first buck).

Last Fall was my 5th of deer hunting.
First season, at the second day, a 6 points.
second season, a spike.
3rd season, a 12points 245LBS
4th season, spike
This year, 8 points the second day, and my oncle a 6points 10minutes before me.
And I have only 20 years old...soon 21
We are a 4 guys on our 4 private territories.
We make a lot of preparations during off season...that's the secret.
We avrage 3 deers each year for 5 years.

I am just a wanabee hunter. 2 years of hunting every day and havnt got anything. In fact I have only seen 4 does on opening day the first year. Waited for a buck to come in though. This year I missed a coyotee on opening day(branched the shot). I guess I just need to prepare better. I am gona try a new prep for next year. I was simply trying to intercept movement on the more used trail those years. I am gona just bait next year.

For deer and marmot, I love my 6.5x55 Mauser. It's bigger than a 243, and a bit smaller than 270.
6.5x55 is a long shot rifle.
For moose and coyote, my 30-06 is my best.
Bow is not for me.

Been a hunter all my life. I even used to be a hunting guide in Montana. My favorite animal to chase is elk. But I do go deer hunting every year too. This year I put up all gooseggs. But that is why they call it hunting and not killing! I only use a bow to hunt anymore. Out here where I am rifle season sounds like WW3! I use a Mathews Legacy.

Sorry for the slow response! That Legacy is one sweet shooting bow. Best I have ever shot.

You could probably call me a killer. The last buck I shot was 4 yrs ago and I thought it was a doe. I always get doe tags and shoot the first one or two that cross my path. Mabey not so sporting but I ALWAYS have venison in the freezer. I used to get pretty exited drawing a bead on a deer and missed a few golden oppertunities @ great trophies. No more. I can't remember the last time I missed a shot.
I've used slugs, a .243, 303 brit., 8mm mauser, 257 roberts, and 30.06. The .06 is my favorite because it works so well in so many situations and when using my Ruger M77 I can place shots inside a 1" circle @ 100yds every time. That rifle has been responsible for a LOT of meat.
I don't have much time for scouting or hunting because that time of year I'm always trying to squeaze in as much work as possible before winter. I KNOW how cold a well diggers ass gets in January!
BTW even this "killer" doesn't bait. Never have.

I still drag out my 06 for the occasional elk hunt in Colorado, but archery is my favorite way to go.
