AARGH!! Home Heating
Well, just got our last month's natural gas bill..........$340!!
WTF!! That's equivalent to a car payment!! First thing I did was pull the plug on the hot tub (gas fueled heater), now I got a skating rink in the back yard!! We keep the inside temp at 68*, I got R38 insulation in the ceiling. This could crimp the snowmobiling activities!!!!!!!!!
What do people on fixed income do??? Go without groceries?? Nice choice to have to make in America....do I want to eat or keep warm!!??
Sorry for the rant, had to vent!!

I got up this morning and the furnace wasn't working. I had to go out and get a new igniter and replace it. Got heat now. I'm on propane.

I just replaced my water heater the other night. Man what a difference that will make on the LP useage. I'm locked into a budget plan with my propane company. I pay $85 a month. I use maybe 900 gal a year. I burn wood for heat. That helps alot. I would like to invest in a pellet stove in the future though.

You could save somemore cash by shutting off your water. If you have to poop just take a cruise to the nearest Burger King..lol

Natural gas fireplace heats are house pretty good. Its a bungalow though. The only time the furnace comes on is at night, and if it gets real cold.

Fireplace or furnace....both are still powered by NG!! Unless the fireplace is a sealed radiant type, the furnace is prolly more efficient!!
Still can't believe that much to heat my house!!!!!????
Where's that kid that was b!tchin' about paying $16/year for a trail permit?? Not that it relates, but he''ll one day be in a position to make the hard choices where/how to spend his money & cry about who has their hand in his pocket!!
DO YOU GET IT NOW??
Sorry, still ranting!!

Last oil tank fill for me was over $500! That will last me around 2 months, with the house at 68 degrees.
I remember oil at $.68 / gal when I built the house. That was only 10 years ago. Stayed around that price until about 3 years ago. The last fill cost me over $2.60 / gal.! Why we're sending all the money overseas I'll never understand. We've got more than enough oil in the US. If it weren't for the #?$?@&&! tree huggers, we'd all be paying under a buck/gal for gas.

I use about $350 to $400 in fuel oil a month. My house is very large and very old(not very well insulated I guess). The cost is literally kicking my arse and squeezing the heck out of our budget. The price is almost double what I paid three years ago.
If I can this summer I am going to tear into my house and invest some cash to make it way more efficient.

Just a reminder for those of you wanting to get a pellet/corn stove: Make sure you get the battery back-up. With out it, if you lose electricity, you can't heat your house. That was the #1 reason I went with a wood stove vs. a pellet. It's just not worth the hassle/added cost to me.

Once it starts gettin' real cold, we heat with wood. It doesn't heat the house but it cuts a couple of bucks off the oil bill.

We've heated with wood all my life, and just the other year we got a pellet stove. Once the temps get down to -20C it can't heat the whole house so we either start a real fire or let the oil kick in a bit. We opted to keep our wood stove for that reason, as well as in case of a power failure we would still have heat.

I prebought oil this year at $2.09 per gallon, which I thought was crazy. Now it's up to $2.55. I have no idea how people are going to live through the winter. Kinda sad.....
