yea, it hasn't come out yet. the reason i picked that one over the ipod was that it is cheaper, has a removable battery, and longer battery life. the batterys are important because i want to take it backpacking with me to new mexico next year and will be able to carry an extra or two. you can't replace the battery in the ipod, thats the biggest complaint i have with it.

haha, no but i should. im in there all the time now. i learned that the one guy who is always by the mp3's doesnt have a clue what an mp3 even is.
yeah, when i first got my ipod it was formatted for mac. then i couldnt re-format it on my PC like you are supposed to. so they didnt know what to do, the geek squad said they could send it in for 20 bucks. however, he said apple charges 50, so i shouldnt bother.
finally got it to format for windows though. then my dog chews up my usb cable! so back up there. then i go shopping for my brother, and go in there like 3 times.

The one you are looking at is nice because it uses flash memory instead of a mini-harddrive. Although I haven't used many harddrive players, they are said to be more prone to skipping and damage than flash memory players. Especially for active people. That's because flash has no moving parts. Also, its got quite a bit of memory for a flash player. In my experience, Sandisk has been a good company. All in all, sounds like a winner.
I bought a 128 MB RCA Lyra in the summer of 04. It lasted for me 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, all summer working in the bush doing things like cutting trees, washing boats, burning stuff, etc. Tough little bugger. It's been dropped, I've burnt holes in my shirt while wearing the mp3 player, and it still works.
If you're going backpacking, you should look at those new backpack generators that go in your backpack and use your motion to produce electricity. Might be a good way to keep your batteries recharged.

i picked that one for the exact reasons you stated. my biggest question is how do you navigate through the songs? ive never heard of a backpack generator.

You can arrange the songs any way you want before you load them onto the player, then you can navigate by folder.
I have found that the windows media player(latest version) works better than the converter that ships with the unit (on the cd).
I have the samsung 512 player and it is lots of fun, when I get tired of listening to what I have loaded, I can change to the fm tuner.

I have a 15 gig iPod, and I've had it for almost 2 years. Love it! No complaints about it at all.

I have a 20GB iPod, but I'm thinking of giving that to my dad and then getting a 60GB video iPod for myself.

Back in '03, I bought this Mpio flash drive with 256MB internal memory.
I use it while snowboarding and I really like it. I chose this model because, it's expandable with an SD card, very small, blue LCD looks good, and it won a couple of awards that year. It has an FM tuner that works quite well, FM tuner recorder as well as voice recorder, 7 preset EQ settings and 5 custom settings, firmware upgrades from the manufacturer, and a forum online for troubleshooting problems. I have used it with my 512MB and 1GB SD cards with no problem. I paid less than $200 for it new, and it can hold quite a bit of music for the price.
About a year ago, I bought a 3rd gen 15GB iPod and use it primarily. The 15GB iPod can hold about ~3,500 of my 30,000 songs from my PC(I am a music lover). I still use the Mpio when I snowboard. It's a lot lighter and I don't need 3500 songs when I'm out there.
If you want a buttload of music at your fingertips, the iPod is the way to go. If you don't care about having a jukebox in your pocket, then choose the player that has the most features that you like. There are so many available. One thing I recommend is to Google it and read up on it as much as you can. The 3rd and 4th gen iPods are getting pretty cheap on eBay. A friend of mine got a 3rd gen 20GB iPod last week for $200 shipped.
The 3rd gen has the 4 buttons above the wheel:
and the 4th gen has the buttons integrated into the scroll wheel. Not much difference in size between the 3rd and 4th. But, the NEW ones are really thin and sport color screens for video playback. I'll be dropping some loot for a new iPod probably next summer.
Good luck!!!
